We know the narrator is the sheriff because he opens with, “I was sheriff of this county when I was 25 years old.” He talks about the old times compared to the new times, and the change in crime, he’s states, “I don’t want to go out and see something I don’t understand, a man puts himself at hazard and has to say, ok I’ll be part of this world.” As the sheriff talks we see multiple static shots on a wide-angle lens different landscapes, each one harsh and empty giving an impression of the type of country these
David Finche’s film Se7en is a gut-wrenching thriller about two policemen's desperate efforts to stop an ingenious serial killer whose work is inspired by the seven deadly sins, this weirdly suspense film goes well beyond the usual police procedural or killer-on-a-rampage yarn due to a fine script, striking craftsmanship and a masterful performance by Morgan Freeman. In a gloomy, unnamed city, new recruit Detective Mills and seasoned veteran Detective Lt. Somerset are investigating a series of murders which appear to be have been based upon the seven deadly sins. With victims mounting and very little to go on, the two men pursue the investigation in their own particular. Camera movement, editing and lighting are all insights for the viewer to seek out the films genre. Camera angles for example, are very personal within this film and give away a lot about Somerset and Mills’ life.
This is a character who suffers from a serious psychopathology that leads him to commit major crimes. Mr. Brooks is a wanted murderer who for years has adopted the pseudonym of "murderer of the tracks." This is categorized as an "abnormal" person. We recall that, as seen in class, the compliance by individuals in a society is essential as they are not given away, i.e when someone violate these rules, you may consider a subject that is outside of this normal. Due to the severity of their actions, Earl would be what is commonly branded as "crazy".
To help explain their reasoning of a serial killers mind, Wolf and Lavezzi provide two cases of serial killers to analyze. Case one describes the serial killer Gary Evans, a white 43 year old man. Out of South Troy, NY, Evans had a bad reputation with law enforcement. Evans’ main priors had to do with the robbery of antiques, a small offence compared to serial killing. He had a group of close friends that he would commit robberies with, and when three of them went missing in 13 years Evans was thought to be involved with their disappearances.

Chandler uses dialogue to demonstrate through interaction the unequal relationship between villain and victim. The Big Sleeps villain is embodied in the form of Lash Canino in this extract. He is a cold, Mafia type henchman that asserts his authority and dominance over Harry Jones by constantly referring to him as ‘little man.’ This exertion of power is again enforced when Harry Jones calls his bluff on whether he will shoot him or not. Canino coolly replies “A Chicago overcoat is what it would get you, little man.” Chandlers use of the 1930’s slang term “Chicago overcoat” meaning coffin also aids in creating an authentic feel to the story as a whole. A feeling of villainy having ties to power and the villain having this over his victim is also apparent in the Poe extract.
They all have their own fate and the ending of these three characters are all different. Llewelyn Moss, the protagonist, is a welder.
