Materiale: George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-four (first published in 1949)

Abstract: Nineteen eighty-four is a book about the society and the state taking over the control of each individual. It’s about being a rebellion, and fight for your rights.

It’s described how the head character, Winston Smith, fights the system and how he tries to survive the monitoring of society. The state has made ministries for everything, love, peace, war etc. This book focuses on the ministry of love.

Winston Smith is a member of a political party and lives in the ruins of London. His parents disappeared under the civil war in Britain, and he was left alone in the world. He was taken care of, of the Engsoc’s, which is a political party standing for English Socialism. He grew up in an orphanage and later had a work in Engsoc.

He finds a girl named Julia that he falls in love with, and that’s illegal so they have to be discrete about their relationship. They get discovered by the ministry of love, and they starts to torture Winston, just to get him “cured”. So they place him in the most horrible room in the ministry, room 101. In room 101, all the prisoners experience their worst fear, and Winston’s worst fear is rats. So they place a cave with rats on his head, and say if he won’t get cured, they’ll open the cave. He screams that they should do it against Julia and not him.
In the end of the roman, Julia and Winston meet in the forest and Winston has become an alcoholic. They don’t have feelings for each other anymore,...
