Nike has been able to brand its company by establishing solid partnerships, mergers and/or subcontracts with other companies and corporations, such as Converse, Hurley International, LLC, Umbro, LTD., etc. Their world headquarters is situated in Beaverton, Oregon but they operate in six continents and directly employ over 35,000 people. Nike’s mission is stated to be to inspire every athlete in the world with their products and services. On the company website, Nike states the following: “Our goal is to carry on his legacy of innovative thinking, whether to develop products that help athletes of every level of ability reach their potential, or to create business opportunities that set Nike apart from the competition and provide value for our shareholders.” Mostly all of Nike’s products are manufactured by independent contractors, with footwear and apparel being created outside the U.S. and equipment products produced both within the U.S. and abroad. Nike now takes a holistic approach to its production and marketing of products so that the company continues to grow in products and profits, but also shrinks in its waste energy and water uses in the environment.
Improving Nike Inc., IT systems will keep the company interconnected with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. My recommendation to improve work flow is to utilize assembling and balancing strategies in Shuzworld’s Shanghai Production Facility (SSPF). Due to the circumstances surrounding this issue, I have chosen this decision analysis tool because the goal of using a layout strategy is “to develop an effective and efficient layout that will meet the firm’s competitive requirements” (JGT2 power point presentation). Proper job layouts must support a business's competitive priorities: process, flexibility, customer contact, and quality of work life. Although there are a variety of layouts to choose from, I recommend using the Product Oriented Layout in order to maximize the long run efficiency of operations by achieving the following: Higher utilization of space, equipment and people, improved flow of materials, information and people, improved employee morale and safer working conditions, improved customer interaction, and more flexibility. The current budget produces 6 workboots in one hour with a 40 hour work week making this the most appropriate layout for the production of footwear as it allows for the relationship between our best personnel and machine utilization for the repetitive and continuous production of our product.
This way is called green marketing which is developing and promoting environmentally sound products and practices to gain a competitive edge (Introduction to Business. Page 270.) And the last tool I would use is sustainable development. That is to doing business to meet the needs of the current generation, without harming the ability of future generations to meet their needs (Introduction to Business page 269.) Now that takes a lot of research to know that the people and community wants.

Since then, many companies have progressively integrated policies that promote sustainability into their business strategies “partly in response to federal legislation and partly due to stakeholder concerns” (Ferrell, 2011, p. A-8). Businesses have discovered that being environmentally-friendly can reduce costs, differentiate their products from others, and increase revenue. This article also examines some of the ways businesses are marketing their commitment to being green. Questions 1) I think every issue relating to sustainability is important. However, I feel that the issue of water pollution is the most important.
He set the tone and direction for a young company created in 1972, called Nike, and today those same words inspire a new generation of Nike employees. Corporate goal is to carry on his legacy of innovative thinking, whether to develop products that help athletes of every level of ability reach their potential, or to create business opportunities that set Nike apart from the competition and provide value for our shareholders. It started with a handshake between two visionary Oregonians - Bowerman and his University of Oregon runner Phil Knight. They and the people they hired evolved and grew the company that became Nike from a US-based footwear distributor to a global marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment that is unrivaled in the world. Along the way, Nike has established a strong Brand Portfolio with several wholly-owned subsidiaries including Cole Haan, Converse Inc., Hurley International LLC, NIKE Golf, and Umbro Ltd. Production plan for Riordan Manufacturing University of Phoenix Operations Management OPS 571 Theodore Curry August 01, 2012 Production plan for Riordan Manufacturing Development of a production plan involves both strategic capacity planning and lean production to create an optimally efficient and cost-effective process design and supply management chain. Riordan Manufacturing’s existing capacity plan is sufficient to sustain the firm’s current production design and output levels, but for Riordan to enhance its competitiveness in an evolving industry the company must constantly reevaluate its processes. The application of strategic capacity planning and lean production techniques can facilitate Riordan’s attainment of its optimal
The vast majority of companies that move in the direction to achieve sustainability also have enhanced profitability. Sustainability offers a firm new ways to protect their business from environmental, financial, and social risks, to run a company with greater efficiency and productivity, and to grow a company through the development of new products and services and the opening of new markets (Savitz, 2006). A firm can protect their business operations by conducting a thorough analysis of assessing the baseline. A company needs a clear understanding of where it is before figuring out where it needs to go. The thorough analysis of the firm’s environment will help identify risks that may be harmful to the employees, customers, and communities, as well as management failures early.
Political competence is what can really make the CC part of it shine and in turn CC will make political competence shine. Political competence is one of the skills necessary to apply good cooperate citizenship. Both are related to ethics. Whereas good corporate citizenship is about an organization acting ethically toward society as a whole, political competence is one of the necessary skill required to apply good cooperate citizenship, which is a number of related skills. Good CC, for example, a company CEO of a HCO defines good corporate citizenship as meeting the growth and demands placed on health companies by society in an economically, environmentally and socially responsible manner (“The Power to Change: Mobilizing board leadership to deliver sustainable value to markets and society”, 2001).
