Nike’s shoe and apparel growth essay (Logos: states facts) Nike, it is one the most well known names in the whole world. Nike creates and distributes in the global marketing of footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories. The well known company sells athletic shoes for just about every sport in existence, including baseball, volleyball, cheerleading, and wrestling. Nike operates in over 140 countries all over the world. For over 30 years Nike has been endorsed by some of the biggest names in sports. Bringing in a lot of money, Nike has maintained its place as the leader in athletic shoes and apparel since its start in the 1960’s. Nike’s background Bill Bowerman was a nationally respected track and field coach at the University of Oregon, who was constantly looking for ways to give his athletes a competitive advantage; He experimented with many different track surfaces, rehydrating drinks and most importantly new making in running shoes. He presented his ideas to footwear manufacturers of the 1950’s but most of them ignored his ideas that he offered, so he began making shoes for his runners. Phil Knight was a talented middle-distance runner from Portland that went to the University of Oregon in the fall of 1955 and competed for Bowerman’s track program. When he graduated from Oregon, Knight earned his MBA in finance from Stanford University, where he wrote a paper to explain his thoughts on quality running shoes that could be made in Japan to compete with more established Germany brands. But his paper to manufacturers in Japan and Asia went unanswered, so Knight took chances. He made a call to the Onitsuka co. in Kobe, Japan, and persuaded the manufacturers of tiger shoes to make him a distributor of the tiger running shoes in the United States.
