“The human spirit can never be squashed, this is the main message in the text night “discuss. Night is an autobiographical text by Elie Wiesel; it explores the atrocity of the Holocaust. The memoir text demonstrates the extremes of brutality and inhumanity by both the Germans and the Jews. The main message in the text is that the human spirit can never be squashed. Elie is a young Jewish boy who is a strong believer and a surviver of the Holocaust. Chlomo struggled a lot but tried to keep a brave face for his son but sadly lost faith. Moche the Beadle is a Jew who got mistreated by other Jews when he told his foreboding story. He is an example of foreshadowing. Akiba Drumer was an inspirational young Jewish boy who tried to keep his faith and hope by playing his violin but sadly loses faith and gives up. The Holocaust brought out people inner courage and faith. Elie is a young 12 year old Jewish boy who has strong faith. “why did I pray?...why did I live?...why did I breathe?” throughout his experiences of the Holocaust his faith begins to fade away “never shall I forget…”. His “father’s presence was the only thing that could stop” him from giving up because he was the only support for his father and gave him courage to survive through each day. When his dad died, Elie felt “relieved” and again found his faith and that gave him courage to go and survived the war. Chlomo is a well respected and admired man in the Jewish community, who is also the father of Elie. He too is a strong believer both in God and the Jewish community. He is “cultured and rather insentimental man”. He does not reveal his emotion but “wept” when the Nazis invaded. During the Holocaust he and his son Elie become close and this gave him courage to survive as long as he could but unfortunately loses his faith and then got very ill after the “death march” and dies in the first night at Buchenwald.
