Cody McFadden AP2530 Nicks story 1. What are nerves? a. A chord-like structure that consists of parallel of axons and their associated neuroglial cells that lie outside the brain and spinal cord. 2. What info do they carry? b. All info from CNS to the rest of the body. 3. How does damage to the PNS affect the body? c. Some may experience temporary numbness, tingling, and pricking sensations, sensitivity to touch, or muscle weakness. Pthers may suffer from more extreme symptoms including, burning pain, muscle wasting, paralysis, or organ or gland dysfunction, people may become unable to digest food easily, maintain safe levels of blood pressure, sweat normally, or experience normal sexual function. In the most extreme cases, breathing may become difficult or organ failure may occur. 4. Which symptom that nick has described so far are relevant to the nervous system? Are his symptoms sensory, motor or both? d. Being unbalanced e. Pains in feet f. Dizziness g. Both 5. Do you think the symptoms nick has described are likely caused by peripheral nerve damage? Could they be caused by damage to the CNS? h. Nicks damage is caused by the PNS not the CNS 6. Nicks light headedness is caused by a condition known as orthostatic hypotension, a rapid drop in blood pressure upon standing up.
