This is when therapies include changes in the diet, the practice of yoga, and a strong emphasis on the connection of mind, body, and spirit (Ellis-Christensen, 2011). There are very little negative side effects associated with alternative medicine as many people are able to purchase herbs, vitamins, and other dietary supplements over-the-counter. A form of alternative medicine that is commonly used is herbal tea containing Echinacea and Chamomile. The combination of these two elements helps to strengthen the immune system of the body. Herbal teas also have the ability to suppress illness as they assist with sore muscles, stomach flu, and a cold.

Jessa Thomson Professor Stillwell USem 102 CTR 4 February 1, 2011 ToT CTR 4 Summary: This chapter in Trick or Treatment describes the pros and cons of herbal medicine. Many people resort to herbal medicine to treat their different ailments. But some of the treatments cause more harm than good. For example: St. John’s Wort can treat mild to moderate depression, but for someone with severe depression or a mental illness it does no good and could even make symptoms worse. Personal Statement: I liked the tables in the book that showed whether or not the herbs/ natural medicine were shown to have a good effect on what they were supposed to.

The article is written in a serious manner, playing on the emotional and reasoning skills of the reader. However the title, "The Miracle of Green Tea", indicates that the writer is not an unbiased observer.
“Complementary medicine includes techniques such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, support groups, and yoga”(NCCAM,2011). “Alternative medicine includes a broad range of practices. Some healing therapies are based on Ancient Chinese beliefs, like acupuncture and the use of certain herbal compounds. Others focus on Hindu, or Ayurvedic, therapies including diet changes, the practice of yoga, and emphasizing the connection of mind, body, and spirit”( Ellis-Christensen,2011). Herbal medicine is a large part of alternative medicine and there seem to be no side effects to these supplements and herbs.
However, there are a number of natural remedies that are recommended to help with morning sickness. Vitamin B6 may be an option for supplementation in pregnant women as well as ginger. Ginger decreases nausea and comes in a variety of options such as ginger biscuits, ginger gum, ginger ale, and ginger capsules. Some women admit to relief and some women deny that ginger gives them any relief from morning sickness.
