Abstract This paper briefly describes the current environmental crisis and the underlying causes for the problems to persist. The lack of proper ethical consideration for non-human elements is too common, and a reexamination of the true value of nature is necessary to begin to protect and conserve the natural resources that are so vital for all life on this planet. To illustrate this point, the use of common good resources relating to tourism is described as well as the potential causes for the common existing mindset of anthropocentrism. Finally, the paper outlines several Native American ethical principles from which people can learn to treat nature with more respect, care, and reverence. There is also the problem that people are motivated to action by fear when collapse or catastrophe is imminent and undeniable (Pratarelli, 2012).
