Nationality Stereotypes Essay

International stereotypes are always very difficult to understand but to my mind it’s an interesting thing. It may be very useful sometimes to learn the way of thinking of a certain nation, to know its features. A nation is a group of people who have common language, history and traditions. These people aren’t just a group, but they are a community with their own culture. People that belong to various nations certainly differ from one another as they have different history and traditions. Therefore international stereotypes usually concern the “so called” character of a certain nation which was once influenced (ˊɪnflυəns) by some past events. I would like to describe some examples proving the variety of national stereotypes. I’m going to compare Belarusian and German nations. People in our country are industrious, calm, kind, outgoing and very helpful. We aren’t considered to be nationalistic, but we are quite patriotic (ˏpætrɪˊɒtɪk). The Germans are always thought to be intelligent, solid, reserved and diligent. They know their own mind. So I think that it would be a bit difficult for a person from Belarus to contact well with a German without learning prejudices (ˊpredʒυdɪs), likes and dislikes of this nation. This thing is very important when dealing with your foreign partners. Understanding international business culture is helpful in engaging positive business relationships. The range of adjustment issues (регулировка) (ˊɪʃu:) such as the etiquette of exchanging business cards, handshaking and how to dress can pose (предоставить) a culture shock in the business environment. Recognizing and accommodating (əˊkɒmədeɪt) (приспосабливая) other cultural norms and rules are important principles for multicultural business. As a part of globalization of the future, the international business culture requires tolerance, cultural understanding and respect for diversity.
