Damonique Stout C. Menke ENG-105 Essay #1 August 30, 2012 SUMMER ’12 “I’m accepted?” I never knew who I really was until the summer of 2012. Realizing what it is like to be a young adult, and the responsibilities I have to carry have made me open up my eyes and start changing for the better. This summer I have planned my life, become a better student, a better worker, and can say I am somebody! It all started at the end of second semester of the 2011-2012 school year. I slacked and did not have my priorities in order, resulting in the failure of classes. Already being on academic probation I lost my financial aid award, and in order to get it back I had to write an appeal. Having it taken away from me for a second time made me come to the conclusion that it was time for me, Damonique Stout, to take responsibility and start using my resources to become a better student and young adult. From that point on I was ready for whatever obstacles came my way. As I thought about maybe not being able to go to school, I wondered what I was going to do with myself. I decided it was time for me to buckle down and look for a job. Although I tried only a little to try and find a job, it wasn’t a priority, and I also didn’t know how to go about it the professional way. When deciding to be serious about finding a job I started going to the workforce and signing up for classes to improve my interview skills and guide me towards being an excellent candidate above the rest. Because of those classes and workers, I had a new mind set and felt refreshed having the confidence I needed. After what seemed like forever, towards the end of the summer, I was hired at Howard Johnson Hotel to be a breakfast attendant, banquet server, and housekeeper.
