Our Storied Lives: Narrating, Navigating Adversity DeVonte` Webb 2/2/2013 As humans we live our lives through memories. These memories that we collect over the course of our lives tells a story. And as humans we want this story to be as entertaining as possible. So we try to fill it with achievements and hardships, and overcoming these hardships to reach these achievements, all with a happy ending. So we use story telling as motivation to achieve as much as possible. Like how people in the music industry sing about how successful they are and how much money they have and what they started out from and how they got through it and now there super rich. Or how some Pro Athletes grew up poor their story is how they practiced really hard until they made their goal. So story telling is great motivation for achieve success. Right now I have the plan in my head (goal) to play football for a Division One college on a scholarship and, eventually (if possible), making it to the NFL. I use this dream of being rich from playing football as motivation to get bigger, faster, and stronger (the basics of being a good football player). And just this Saturday, February 2nd 2013, I was at a football combine. Now I went in plan “hey I’m going to taking these test and come out at least above average.” I had my plan and then it was time to act it out. After it was Over I got a SPARQ Rating of 45.90. This was in the 32nd percentile of all the athletes that we there the last year. And on the paper it says that I basically have less than a 2% chance to play on a D1 school on a scholarship. Now this made me sad for a moment and made me realize that I need to work a lot harder to make my achievement, so I used that as even better motivation to get bigger faster and stronger so the next time I take the test I’ll get an even better
