Then when she grows up she has a baby and Madame Valmonde goes to visit her and her baby. Armand, being a slave owner when realizes that the baby is not white meaning that Desiree is not white he tells her to leave the house. Desiree feels sad and desperate because of the situation and writes to her mom for help. She tells Desiree to come home with her baby. Later on, Armand burns anything that belongs to Desiree and feels like he doesn’t love her anymore just because the shame she brought to his family.

In the first Act John Proctor has a very troubled past and is feels very guilty for it and these quotes show it. In Act Tree proctor starts to change into a more protective husband. This honesty from Proctor, whom she revered and adored, pains her in ways she cannot comprehend, leaving her cold and merciless as she attempts to shield herself from the unbearable scars Proctor left her. When the townspeople discover the remains of Homer Barron locked away in Miss Emily’s bedroom after her death, we see that Miss Emily ultimately rejected the values of her culture. This is true not only in rejecting its values on dating or marriage but also those disdaining murder. In this way Miss Emily rejects the rigid values that have ruled most of her life. As Dilworth (1999) maintains, “By entering a love affair with Homer Barron, Emily briefly rebelled against southern values and then, by ending her affair with him, at least as far as the townspeople were concerned, she conformed again to those values” (p. 251). In contrast, the narrator does not want to shoot the elephant but ultimately does.
Goneril and Regan pledge their love for their father, while Cordelia refuses to speak and when probed finally states that she cannot “heave her heart into her mouth,” (Act I p.7 96-97) that she loves him exactly as much as a daughter should love her father, and that her sisters wouldn’t have husbands if they loved their father as much as they claim. An enraged Lear disowns Cordelia and splits her share of the kingdom between the remaining two sisters. This is a prime example of the beginning of destruction across familial, personal and social aspects. Lear pits his daughters against one another in a selfish endeavour to boost his own pride, but in doing this he also destroys a very crucial aspect within the monarchy by removing the one daughter who has not saught out to destroy him and the foundation he had built for his kingdom. In disowning Cordelia this breaks the natural order of things because in doing so he has severed the natural bond that a father and daughter share, as well he has personally destructed himself with this decision because he has given up on his favoured daughter.
Later in the poem, Hughes accuses his wife of abandoning her family. The repetition of “you” in the lines “unravelled your marriage, left your children echoing like tunnels in labyrinth, left your mother a dead-end” emphasises the immensely accusatory tone of the poem. These accusations in The Minotaur show that Hughes puts all blame for their failed marriage onto his wife, and is not taking any of the responsibility. Though she has no known medical condition, she wastes away due to depression. While she is housebound, Jorge del Pino, courts her and persuades her to marry him. After their honeymoon, he leaves her at home with his mother and sister while he goes on long business trips, punishing her out of his jealousy for her past with Gustavo. His mother and sister are cruel to Celia, even more so after she becomes pregnant.
Along with that, she’s married to Curley who she never really loved thus making it even lonelier for her. Also, since she’s married she can’t follow her dream of being a movie star which she confesses to George and Lennie. For instance Curley says to her “Why’nt you tell her to stay the hell home where she belongs?” This shows no one wants Curley’s wife around. Steinbeck even give her a name of her own. That just shows how much he wanted to express her isolation.
In the stories, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Katherine Anne Porter both women had different reactions to the similar situations of being rejected by their lover and losing a loved one. In Faulkner’s story, A Rose for Emily, the main character, Miss Emily, acted out irrationally when her lover, Homer, rejected her. All her life Emily was not able to have a chance with any suitors because her father always pushed them away. When she got older she began to loose her beauty and she felt she would never get married
