* What is Father Prior’s strategy for achieving his vision? In the beginning, the monastery utilized donations for the community as the foundation for their vision. This was a great way to begin a business venture – money that you don’t have to repay. Father Prior’s strategy is to utilize their competitive advantage and broaden the marketing of Mystic Coffee. The profits from the boast in sales and customers would be an excellent revenues source for the land purchase and future business improvements. * What competitive advantage might Mystic Monk Coffee’s strategy produce? Mystic Coffee has several advantages. The product has a lower price than the average competitor which would make the product attractive to the millions of coffee drinkers in the US alone. The affiliation that the coffee has with the Catholic Church could be a draw for the millions of Catholics around the world. It would be an option to substitute their regular coffee for the Mystic Monk coffee and support their religion at the same time. For the average person, purchasing coffee made by monks could ultimately satisfy ones curiosity and make a nice conversation item. * Is Mystic Monk Coffee’s strategy a money-maker? The Mystic Monk strategy has a lot of potential, but it needs a lot of work. Father Mary admits to not having much business experience, but he has passion for what he has created and that will keep him going. The business itself needs to expand it marketing spectrum; they cannot just continue to rely on word-of-mouth. They should market to more than just Catholics, but they can focus on all Catholics (I’m Catholic and I had never heard of this company.).
