Running cross-country, as a junior in high school is different from running it in middle school. I was one of the best runners while I was in seventh and eight grade. This changed at my first practice with the high school team. Coach Sorrells talked about the course since the first practice in may, this is the state-meet course, and that it is important to do well. Everyone was concentrating on Carrolton.
You see for four years teachers, parents, even previous graduates spread the hype that on the day of graduation you will have the time of your life. But when I finally woke up that morning I was overly excited. Today was the day that I had been waiting for since I was a freshman. I couldn’t wait to walk across
My confidence was at an all time high! My father thought I needed a challenge, so he convinced me to try out for the High School Varsity team. Obviously, I was certain I would dominate. I had never been unsure about my ability. Tryouts began after school on a beautiful Monday afternoon.
As a middle school runner I mainly ran 3ks which was ran on the same course as high school but was only 1.8 miles. I remember the senior runners screaming at me to run faster because it’s only a 3k its nothing compared to a 5k. The taunting from the upper class only made me run twice as hard during practice and running events, just to prove I had what it took to make varsity and run a 5k. My coach in instantly took note on how
My schedule consisted of waking up early every day and taking a 1.5 mile run, followed by taking 500 jump shots, a similar exercise Kobe performed during his high school career. Conquering the fear of failure became an imaginary bond between Kobe and I. I knew that working hard all summer honed my physical and mental edge on the court. When tryouts came around, the odds were against me, as the team roster had been established, but I did my best Kobe impersonation and played harder than anyone else on the court. I made the team because just like Kobe, I wasn’t going to fail. This experience taught me to have fortitude, and to always strive for my dreams.
But also my talent would enable me to be good at more than one event in track. At the end of my sophomore year, I took the decision to enter a new season with the determination to quit playing basketball and to be the best I could be on the track, so that I could get a scholarship for college. As one of the best coaches, in my eyes, Mr. Washington helped me become one of the fastest 100m through 400m runners in the state of California, by the end of my junior year in high school. I received a scholarship that would pay for all of my tuition and monthly bills while getting a college education. This is something that I wanted to happen in the sport of basketball, but Mr. Washington helped me see otherwise that my talent was meant for
Track practice is every day of the week, and the meets (races) are on Saturdays. After a day of track practice, a person can feel great disorientation. Besides the hard work and stress brought from track, it’s also the most amazing feeling when a race is won. Finishing the race first is like having all your dreams come true. Track also consists of field events, a runner can choose to participate in
The Boys & Girls Club ran several different sports programs so I was always there. One year a month or so before summer I was about fifteen (15). The Director made an announcement that they will be hiring a teen to run the lunch program for the summer. At that time the opportunity seemed perfect, but the only problem was that I wasn’t the only person interested. ---What should I do---- Later on day all I could think about was how could I get that job.
Their starting line up consists of two seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore, all who were part of the championship team last year. This experienced combination of players will be a lethal hit to any team that is in their way. Russ Smith is the driving force that propels this team. He has all the skills it takes to keep the team together and has helped amass such a great run at the end of their season, with a 42-point outbreak against Houston two weeks earlier. The Louisville Cardinals are not going down this year; they will fly all the way to the top.
She was my first best friend; I was so upset when she had to move. I joined a soccer team for the first time and realized it would be what I stuck with for years and then join the school team in high school. In middle school when a close friend, Daniel Dixon, passed away from a fatal car accident I thought I would never be the same. When I got put into the accelerated classes which would change my life forever because it would be put on my transcript and would allow me the chance to get into the very best schools in the state; when this happened Brandy Hamiter and Savannah Martoi became my best friends. Then in High School, a big group of people spent their whole week trying to beat the seniors at most school spirit.
