The struggle I experienced for four whole years finally came to an end my senior year of high school. It all began my freshman year when I made the varsity track team. I was so excited that if I went back to that time, I would not be able to bring the way I felt into words. I knew then that I would have to bust my butt to make a point to my coaches because of being the only freshman on the varsity team. There it started—I practiced every single day, pushing myself to an extent I never knew I could reach. I knew eventually that my hard work would be sure to pay off. My first track meet arrived; followed by many others. My events were the one hundred meter dash, two hundred meter dash, and the shuttle hurdles. Each and every county meet along with regional meets, I placed in every one of my events. My first and foremost favorite event was the one hundred meter dash. Therefore, I wanted to win it all for just that event. Of course the other events were important to me too, but since I began running track in elementary school, the one hundred meter had been my event of “perfection”. The end of the season approached and it was time to reveal who made it to states. The anticipation I felt while waiting and hoping for my name to be called was indescribable. I heard my name! Followed by my name, I heard every one of my events that I would be running in at states. I did not expect it to be all three of my events. I was ready for this meet than any other meet I participated in before. What better feeling than that as being the youngest one on a varsity team headed to the state meet! The day I had been yearning for arrived. I was headed to the state track meet in Huntington, WV.
