With homeschooling, the parents are the ones teaching their children, so they know their progress, strengths and weaknesses. Bittner explains that there are numerous problems with testing and that teachers actually have a problem with it. There is such a frantic need to teach children everything that will be on a standardized test that learning is almost disregarded. If any material isn’t on the main test then it is not taught. The author point out that critical thinking is not on a test so it is overlooked by routine memorization.
NCLB set forth a certain criteria to be met, but allowed the states to determine how they would accomplish it. Therefore, each state handles assessment and accountability differently. This makes it hard to show success or failure of the programs. Supporters and critics alike can cite research that supports their opinion. My opinion of NCLB is it is flawed, developmentally inappropriate, ill funded, ←and→ leaving more students, teachers, ←and→ schools behind than ever before because The tests have turned into the objective of classroom instruction rather than the measure of teaching ←and→ learning.
An Evaluation of IUPUI Center for Young Children Kayla Bruen ENGL 111-1CH Ivy Tech Community College September 29, 2011 An Evaluation of IUPUI Center for Young Children Introduction When I was a child I never did like going to daycare, simply because I knew that child care providers would not treat me like my mother would. I have chosen to evaluate this center because I know people who have use this service. This evaluation will be useful to parents who are seeking child care on campus. I have interviewed two of my friends who are using this service. When I interviewed my friends I asked questions about the cleanliness, activities, hours, prices, and location.
Also I find it ironic that it isn’t until after she is fully diagnosed that her family wants to send her away for an education to a special school. It is almost as if saying now that she has a label we must label her and send her away where they can help her. I can’t help but wonder if her own family could have helped her just the same, especially since they had already been doing so. One could pick out many other instances of irony in this story; however I don’t want to give everything away. This was a wonderfully performed and put together work, one that definitely needed to be relived and who better then our very own
Synthesis Essay 2 “The most powerful question a parent can ask” by Neil Millar and “Be-ers and Doers” by Budge Wilson are about making children demonstrate great accountability. Neil Millar talks about “what kind of children do (we) want to raise” whereas Budge talks about the difference between being and doing. Both of the passages represent that being parents is a very challenging job but “the most powerful question a parent can ask “ shows the more respectful approach of parents to their children. In some families values play an important role. “(These) values pass on mother-to-mother combine with the natural instincts to love, support and nurture.” If a person was raised spending most of the time on the things that were being bad influence for them such as wrestling or teen’s reality show or their parents were too busy working and did not have enough time to check if they were keeping up with the homework and reading.
Yelling is not the right way to teach a child that they just did something wrong. When you explain to a child in a positive yet strict way that their actions were not pleasing, they perceive the information so much better than when being yelled at. Just like with my own children, I always reassured my classroom children that even though they made a bad decision, I still love them. The challenge didn’t come from my own classroom, the challenges came from the guardians. Through our program, we had to have several “workshops” with the guardians each year.
BEVERLY KINGSHOTT 06/03/13 UNIT 2 1.3 When children are young and first start school they can have many disagreements this is because they all have different personalities and ideas and because they are not mature enough . They find it hard to know how to handle there feelings and actions. These disagreements need to be dealt with immediately so that the situation is resolved before it is repeated or escalates. It is important to remember that you need to set an example with your own behaviour so that children can learn what is except able behaviour and what is not. If a child sees that you are polite and respectful to others around you then they will see this is the behaviour that is expected of them.
Nowadays there is a considerable debate whether children should go to schools for education or can have home education instead. People are starting to consider thinking which way would be more suitable for their kids and for themselves as well. They are assessing the positives and negatives of each option and then choosing the one that is best fitting their needs and life style. Although that most of parents that started home education for their children have found out that it is not easy to transfer school facilities to home, but it has become a very accepted alternative way for going to schools . The number of children being educated at home is considerably increasing though there are no accurate prevalence estimates as mentioned by Petrie, Windrass & Thomas, 1999.
There are a handful of parents in this authoritative world which do admit to their mistakes, like mine, sometimes. However, they are still not always right. Being right and thinking that you're right are two different things completely. If a parent keeps thinking he is always right, several problems will occur. If the child is powerless to the situation, or is in no position to conduct an argument, the child would be mistaken, resulting in another two possible outcomes.
“Finding child care is more than merely picking a (day care) service that lets parents go to work” (APA.) Parents really need to research and make sure the day care center that they choose is the right one for their children. Sometimes day care centers may look like a great place for children to learn, play and grow but that is not always reason enough to place children in the day care center. When choosing the best day care center parents could process a background check on the person they are employing. Parents need to know the importance of child care programs.
