I was excited to start my new life in America. I had just arrived at JFK airport in New York and the sun was in my eyes. I was excited to see the beautiful things that the U.S had to offer. I walked around New York when something caught my eyes. I saw the Twin Towers shiny and new.
The brochure attracted our attention so much that we decided in that minute to purchase tickets to Las Vegas. Before we went to Las Vegas, we did not expect that this trip was going to be one of the most exhilarating family vacations we have ever had. We already felt very excited the night before and when we arrived at Las Vegas. It felt so electrifying to imagine the place from the brochure that created wonder and fantasy in my mind. When we the time we arrived, we were all amazed by the atmosphere in the airport.
Experiencing Boston “Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”—Confucius I was extremely excited to visit Boston for one of the world’s largest career fairs this past October. It was an amazing trip to go on, especially as an international student, both personally and professionally. I was ecstatic to learn that nearly 190 outstanding, innovative companies from all over the world offered a variety of positions for bilingual students. I was most interested in EY, Misuho Bank and JP Morgan. During the career fair, I had in-depth conversations with representatives from many of those corporations.
The food is the best, and the fans are great to mingle with. I have been very fortunate in the last few years to be at many regular season games, two playoff games and the home run derby during the all-star break. I have also collected many autographs from former MVP’s and Cy Young award winners before the games. There is nothing else like a postseason playoff game at Busch Stadium. There is an electric feeling in the air as soon as you get out of your car in the parking lot.
The winter in Chicago was cold and before long William asked Marissa how she would feel about taking a trip to California. He had some business there. They could fly from California to Hawaii and enjoy a week at the beach. She was touched. He had presented this idea to her with a dozen red roses, a box of Godiva Chocolates and airplane tickets.
During the summer after my sophomore year of college, I spent 8 weeks in Guatemala on a service trip that I ventured into with the naïve notions that I was saving the world. Bright eyed with excitement over the opportunity to make an impact, I was about to step outside of my little bubble into one of the most eye opening and humbling experiences. Probably the most defining moment of the trip happened when I was in Nebaj. As I sat on the La Pista runway, gazing up at the beautiful mountains surrounding me, all I saw was beauty and serenity. I openly marveled at the breathtaking surroundings around me, only to see pained reactions from my host family.
I forget how many levels of the ship there were, but it seemed like a lot because by the time we got to the top it seemed like we had been walking through it forever. Getting to the top was pretty cool because they had a lot of old jet planes up there and we were able to sit in some of them and take pictures. At the end of the day, I remember being very worn out from all the walking around. After all the nice, fun, and relaxing days in California our weekend vacation came to end and we all had to head back to Arizona. Keep in mind, we are still driving the minivan until we reach Yuma again and can pick up the SUV that was being worked on.
Later at the checkout isle, Mother noticed that I was holding a huge Hersey’s candy bar bigger than my head. I had grabbed it in my fall from the plummet of Mount Everest. At that moment, the Publix manager walk up behind the cashier and informed us that she would let me have it for free, which in the end, made me feel like I had been handed a million dollars. To prevent this incident from ever happening again, Mother bought a dog leash from the animal isle. From that moment on, before I ever set foot into a store, Mother would loop the dog leash around my waist and hold the other end.
We had been living in the beautiful sunshine state of Arizona for the last three years, my youngest daughter Vivian and I. The climate was wonderful, warm sunshine, clear blue skies, majestic mountains on the horizon, in a word, breathtaking. But Texas was home, and now we had a reason, a very strong motivation to return home. The birth of my first grandchild, and Vivian’s niece. Emily Jane Darer, born on a Tuesday, January 17, 2011, I was ecstatic, thrilled, happy, excited and missing her already, yet we haven’t met.
Immigration I receive a call from my friend three days after we took him to the airport. Concerning him, everything was nice and perfect in this new country. The weather was cool and pleasant and the people friendly. About me, I didn’t want to go anywhere else, but I started to think about this country of the perfect life according to my friend and what I saw through the TV. Looking for better life and better education are making people move around the world from place to place and the best place all over the world is the United State of America.
