War in the Middle East “Fostering freedom will help end war because people who participate in their own government are less likely to go to war” (Gerdes 190). As long as man is on the Earth there will be some sort of conflict. People have different views, and that has been that way forever. Terrorism exists today because some people have their beliefs and do not want them to be changed. Helping these countries obtain freedom with a democratic government will give them a voice and reduce terrorism.
This source is not reliable because it seems that Lord Lansdowne is using his opinion and his status/authority to try and get the public to agree with him wanting the war to end which suggests it is not a genuine concern of Lord Lansdowne which may affect the usefulness of this source. Source 2 also agrees to a far extent because it is a letter from Vera Brittan to her brother saying that she wanted the war to continue even though she was against war and condemned it. This source is very reliable because the letter is from Vera Brittan whose fiancé died of wounds from the war which means the British public could relate to her emotionally. In addition Source 3 also agrees to an extent because it was a reply to a letter from a common soldier which entailed the support from women to the soldiers in the war. This source may not be reliable because it is only one person’s opinion.
The Crucible/Goodnight and Good Luck Essay In ‘The Crucible,’ John Procter gives his life to defend his concept of justice and truth. Two and a half centuries later, Edward R. Murrow went against Joseph McCarthy to defend democracy and truth, which he felt were being threatened, risking his television show and career in the process. One could say that these two individuals were foolish in the risks that they took, especially considering that there was no guarantee that their fight would be won. Both individuals could easily have gone on with their lives and careers without having to jeopardize anything. But they made the sacrifice and chose to do so anyways.
Giving large sums of our personal profits to other countries will hurt us in the long run, it may be morally rewarding, but financially it is not. Another interesting argument against Peter Singer’s ethical views is that he is not against abortion or euthanasia. Not everyone is against abortion and euthanasia, but it is understandable to see how one can have a fight with these topics. If he wants life and liberty for one group of people, he should be for the life and liberty of all, this includes those in the womb. It is also a valid point to bring up that it is voted more of a reasonable action to save someone “right in front of you” rather than miles away.
Our founding fathers fought for a separation of powers between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches to avoid conflict and rise of power in one or more branches. In that aspect I believe the government works in a constructive manner to ensure equality between the branches, however, in the matter of working in a constructive manner for the good of the people is less certain. This country is facing an economic crisis and there are members of both parties that would tell the general public they would like the war in Afghanistan and Iraq to come to an end when in reality an economic recovery is the last thing they want to happen in a foreign country. The Republican Party, for example, would have liked to see a higher unemployment rate towards the end of 2012 in hopes of decreasing the chances of the President’s re-election. Higher unemployment rates lead to a more devastating economic crisis resulting in the failure to re-elect a democratic President or more precisely, our current President.
As people we should have the freedom to think and believe whatever we want, no one else should be able to tell you that what you think and believe is wrong or right in a sense that would make it illegal to believe that. In America this law is not implied and that is the reason that people from all different countries risk their lives to come to America. They want a new start where they can be themselves and believe what they want, the opposite of what this law/idea will do when implied. This is one of the reasons America is considered one of the greatest countries to live in.
I side with Obama on this topic. I have friends who are over there fighting for our country and they have been there long enough. In my opinion they are fighting a fictitious war with no meaning because of President Bush’s foreign policy after 9/11. Although I am very sorry for those who lost family members that day I do not believe 9/11 is an American tragedy, it was an inside job done by the Bush administration so they could send troops over to Iraq. With that in mind I would never want the people whom I love to get hurt now in Afghanistan over something like that.
Jake Hager Mrs. Sedgewick February 20, 2012 Silver 2 Persuasive Essay If people in America gave up when they thought they wouldn’t succeed, then we might still have slaves, no rights, and a corrupt country. Most people would agree that if you aren’t going to win then you just shouldn’t try. In my personal opinion this way of living couldn’t be more wrong. When Atticus decides that it is necessary to help Tom, it is a prime example of how some people will continue to try even after they are well aware they cannot win. "Atticus, you must be wrong...." "How's that?"
If justice is conceived of as being about what individuals would choose were they unaware of who they are (Singer) then people would surely chose an impartial universalist approach to redistributive justice as advocated by Singer if they did not know whether they were a citizen of the USA or Europe. Singer believes that governments give priority to their citizens over the far more urgent and desperate needs of those further away. I believe Singer is right about this because, in most cases the governments don’t give much thought about helping kids with disabilities as much as they do to war or raising tuitions rates like the U.K just
December, 7, 10 Political Science 201: Politics & Power Instructor: Bill Hughes Final Some people think that being free to do as we please and not having to answer or pay any dues to “the MAN” would be the good life and that everything would be so nice and dandy. These people are wrong. We need to have some sort of government to be in charge, because without any authority there would be no order in society and our country as we know it would fall apart and turn to shit. Although we can’t have totally liberty the government still has to give us a just form of freedom because without that we would be slaves to the government and have no purpose in life but to serve the head of the regime. In order to run a society for the people we would have to give everyone the right and opportunity to make what they want of themselves unless of
