To Kill a Mockingbird Essay In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee gives the reader an inside look on the racial complexities of Maycomb County. Although not every character got justice in the end the reader can learn the important moral on how just because one is a minority does not mean they should be harassed. An example of discrimination is how Tom Robinson was accused of something he didn’t do just because he was a minority. Also in the court house how the whites and blacks are segregated. An example of an acceptance of a minority is Calpurnia because Atticus respects her for who she is no matter if she is white Atticus is a man of justice.
Much of his writing focused on the problem of racism in the United States. Baldwin argues that racism is a psychological problem that white America has, and concludes that until white people can learn to love themselves the problem cannot be cured. “There is no reason for you to try to become like white people and there is no basis whatever for their impertinent assumption that they must accept you (The Fire Next Time, 19).” As an African American, Baldwin was well equipped to unmask the illusions of white supremacy. Baldwin might sound a little harsh when he is talking about white people, but he did not hate white people even though their attitudes and actions infuriated him. “Instead, he developed an unsentimental compassion for whites so trapped by their fear that they are deeply alienated from their true selves (Jon, 3)”.
This creates a form of irony and chaos, where the government and or the community are not sure what to do when it comes to how to treat those of different gender and race in the work place. Lastly, Newton explains there is a simple solution to this problem, and that if everyone just refrained from discrimination initially, there will be no conflict nor would there have been any. The second article by Gertrude Ezorsky, “A Reply to Critics of Affirmative Action” is about the effect of affirmative action within the African American community. Ezorsky touches on the subject of whether or not affirmative action compensates African Americans for their lost years of equal treatment. Also, Ezorsky explains her pro view on affirmative action and how it benefits not just the African American community, but helps the reader realize that affirmative
This is the issue that mostly bothered Jefferson, since he wanted the creation of a perfect society. The most important information derived from this secondary source was the ideologies that Jefferson had towards the Slaves and Native Americans. Jefferson believed these minorities were intellectually inferior and basically considered them a parasite and a libidinal race. To support my statement, I took this quote from the secondary source, “It must not allow its people to be “stained” and become a nation of mulattoes.” I found it very ironic at how Jefferson contradicts himself in several occasions, especially on this last quote because he himself had had children with his slave. Jefferson believes that slavery should be abolished because not only did it deprive the Black’s right to liberty, it also undermined the self control white men had to self republic.
However, it was shown to be severely false when looked at through scientific point of view. It was missed interpreted and was used as an excuse to satisfy the Elite Class in justifying their collection of wealth giving them the power to govern and control the weaker human race. The power to oppress those differ in race, gender, class, or otherwise. It was used against blacks for racism, segregation, women, placement in society, or used against the working class to such group (classification). Intellectually speaking, the survival of the fittest simply means “only the fittest organisms will prevail”.
The author reveals that white males with their undeserved privileges develop hatred towards minorities in their communities. Moore also conveys the stereotypical oppression in which the majority males consider the minority as a visibly different part of society. Furthermore, the white-male hegemony ideology perpetuates the economic dependence that the minority has to endure. Having illustrated the problematic nature of hegemonic domination and oppression of women and minorities, the author creates the impression that society stimulates the racial and gender inequality by emphasizing the social segmentations which prioritize some individuals over others. Moore’s argument about the existence of oppressive mechanism seems to constitute a recommendation for change.

This is due to how people use racial categories to provide an idea to what another person is like. Such assumptions on personalities is tied into preconceived notions that different race’s act differently. This is a great stereotyping which helps reveal what race is in society.
