“My Pretty Rose Tree” is a poem written by the English poet William Blake. And it is a part of his collection Songs of Experience in 1794. By the look of it, William Blake’s “My Pretty Rose Tree” is an example of Romanticism Poetry and it contains uncomplicated verse, but the poem operates on many levels in reality. Close examination of Blake’s use of objects, familiar symbolic and light romance verses. The poem speaks of flowers, love, and jealousy but beneath the surface contain deeper meaning of rejection and faith. This poem has two stanzas and four lines in each. There is not significant visual presentation, other than the four-line pattern. In the first stanza, the flower and the rose tree symbolize women in this poem. The poem describes a woman love a man, but he rejects her because he already has somebody he loves more than anything. In the second stanza, the man tells his woman about the happening, but she leaves him with jealous. The poem goes from a seemingly happy- ending poem to a tragic end about lost love. Romantic love often is short-lived. The poet used a lot of symbolism and personification in the poem that is really the characteristic of romantic poem. The rose is given human abilities, like “but my rose turned away with jealousy. The rose is very beautiful, but her thorns are sharp and painful. If you are careless you will be hurt. That’s exactly what happened of the man in the poem: he was stung by the thorn by telling his loved one about the encounter with another woman. This poem told us a love story. The story is about the man choose one lover form two women and the outcome of that choice. There are three themes in this poem. One of them is mentioned in the second stanza: jealousy. Because the woman fell into the jealous, the man in the poem is lost the love of his life. Another theme is sadness or despair of the man after he lost her.
