The Art of Music Music changed my life. It made a sense of determination and fitting in with other activities but I failed to do so. Now I have a great appreciation for many different types and genres of music, what specifically drew me to it is the great art of Pop Music. It all began with watching old Michael Jackson videos and listen to his albums when I was ten years old. Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, actor, producer, dancer, and businessman. He was often mentioned to by the honorific nickname "The King of Pop", his influences to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career seven years later. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and advertising tool. While yes, his story is amazingly awesome and exciting, Michael Jackson was my first introduction to Pop music. As a ten year old boy who had yet to find his place in the world, watching other children my age play this new and exciting music and doing the “moon walk”, it came across as a revelation. From this point forward Pop music was what I enjoyed a lot and love it dearly. Once I got older and started using iTunes and the Internet, I discovered truly how much music there is available to listen to in the world. It was more than just the list of great music I heard from Michael Jackson. From there on out I would spend countless hours searching
