My Left Foot Questions: Sequence one: Opening credits: 1: The setting is dark and confined, there is natural light shining on Christy Browns face which tells us that it is day time but he still wishes to be in the dark. It is very silent apart from the scratchings of the record player. 2: There is a horse and cart in the narrow streets. This tells us that where Christy lives is not in the heart of the city centre as we pass by images of it in the opening sequence. The area is not as privileged. 3: The man is elderly and is dressed formally. We know that he owns the house which gives the impression that he is wealthy and in charge. Also he is wearing a tuxedo which is the epitome of formal wear 4: I do not think that Christy Brown Meant it to offend, it is simply a saying used widely by many people. In my opinion I think the wealthy home owner was offended because he wanted to appear rich and respected, not “humble”. Meeting Mary: 1: Mary wheels Christy into the library after a gentleman warns her to be careful. The library is bright and spacious and open but it seems that it is secluded from the rest of the house as Christy and Mary have to listen to the speech through an intercom. There are lavish paintings on the walls and a huge fireplace. 2: I think that Christy was refering to himself when he said looks can be deceiving because all people see when they look at him is his disability when in reality, he is so much more than that and is really a sensitive soul, just wanting to be loved and to feel like he belongs. 3: Mary takes a bottle of Whisky and a copy of Christy’s book from the Wheelchair. 4: The wealthy elderly man from the scene prior to the current one is making a speech and explaining to the people there that it is a benefit in honour of Christy Brown.
