My Journey through Education Different lessons and experiences throughout my years of education have helped me become the person I am today. I have grown up to be a trustworthy and mature person. Even though some experiences were negative I learned from each of them. Having my teachers’ support, motivation from receiving awards, and the experiences on field trips all helped me learn to succeed. Educating people can be a challenge but luckily for my teachers I was one of those people that wanted to learn more and never stopped trying. Education is the key to success and becoming the person I want to be in life. Looking back at my years in school, elementary school teachers have had the most impact on my education and the young adult that I have become. I had patient and hardworking teachers that focused on our struggles and helped us overcome those challenges that we faced from time to time. Being in the EXCEL/GATE program always kept me busy. It wasn’t always easy for me to get good grades, especially in math. Year after year math seemed to get harder. My fifth grade teacher Mrs. Richardson was really concerned with my test scores and decided to provide tutoring for those who needed it. She made me attend and even though I tried giving up she pushed me into doing better. Mrs. Richardson was like a second mother to me she never gave up and always believed in me. Another wonderful thing that she did was put me in a self esteem counseling program that was being done by college students. This program helped me see qualities in myself that I didn’t see before. I’m glad I was put in that because my confidence level did go up somewhat. In the story “Indian Education” by Sherman Alexie the author’s fourth grade teacher suggested he should be a doctor. “You should be a doctor when you grow up.” This shows that the teacher cared about his future.
