My Hero Gary Sinise Mr. Gary Sinise is best known as LT. Dan from the Oscar award winning film Forest Gump. Other films Mr. Sinise also stared in were the acclaimed Apollo 13 as well as the thriller Ransom just to name a few of the many. (www.garysinisefoundation.org) But these are not the qualities that make him a hero to me. Mr. Sinise is an inspiration to me because of his selfless devotion to honoring the men and women of the armed forces as well as first responders and all who serve our country. He does this through the foundations that he has started, one of which is the Gary Sinise Foundation. “The Gary Sinise Foundation was officially formed in 2010, and is dedicated to serving the Nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. Serving Honor and Need™ is the cornerstone of the foundation, which is built upon its founder’s life-long principals and long standing commitment to be a citizen of action, and to help in any way that one can, the people who serve our country.” (www.garysinisefoundation.org) Through this commitment, Mr. Sinise has traveled all over the world on well over 50 USO tours to entertain the men and women of our nations armed services and help boost morale. His foundation has also partnered with Building Homes For Heroes and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports children who have lost a parent, and firefighters and police officers as well as military personal that have been seriously injured and have sacrificed their quality of life in the line of duty. I have been personally touched through this specific partnership. A high school friend of mine, U.S.M.C. Corporal Todd Nicely, lost all four of his limbs when stepping on an IED while on patrol in Afghanistan. Todd received monetary assistance to help build a house fitting his special needs through this
