Poppy Carroll Shrum "Stupid Obama!" Madison and i looked at each other and laughed quietly, because Poppy had woken from a dead sleep just to say that. It was about 3:30 a.m., we were taking turns waking each other up taking shifts to watch Poppy. We being my cousins and i; Madison, Kaitlyn, and my sister Lindsay. Madison and i were sitting in Poppy's office. Madison was on a chair next to the hospital bed and i was on a couch on the other side. His office was always so cozy, and it always smelled just like him, cigarettes and his Consort hairspray. His desk was in its usual place in the left of the room, all of his pictures and knick-knacks in the back on deep brown wooden shelves. We were his life. My cousins and I had always been his number one priority, and we were so spoiled. When we would go to Wal-Mart trips, he would spend a thousand dollars on junk just because we had wanted it. Most of the time we would get markers and paint and posters and make signs to hang in his room. I remember once when he came home from the hospital and we had covered his entire office, wall to wall, with posters. Meme was kinda mad because we put tape on the windows, but she knew we had good intentions. He had given us most of the best memories of our lives, South Padre Island, Branson, The famous Wal-Mart trips, Nic-pics, (as we called them), and most of all Christmas. We would all go to Meme and Poppy's house for Christmas and take turns opening presents and teasing eachother about anything. He has always been my hero. Poppy was getting really sick, and we all knew what was going to happen soon enough, but hearing him talk when he was on morphine and all the pain medicine was just plain hilarious. He'd always been that way though, just making everyone laugh, and making everyone's day better. Making everyone's life better. He had been sick for a long time, and been through
