Teaching, Planning and Evaluating Art I was very lucky in many ways to grow up around a talented and creative family. My mother sewed and made quilts. My father was a good musician and played the guitar. My three siblings along with my self, was talented with good voices and song in the choir and my father taught my brother to play the guitar. I was exposed to many different talents and my creativity was encourage and nourished by family and early child hood teachers. I recall when I was three years old getting ready for preschool. I was afraid and did not want to leave my mother. My mom asked what’s wrong noticing tears in my eyes, I remember telling her I didn’t want to leave her, being my first time away from her. My mother being a good mom that she was took me to school and stayed with me for a short while. I remember meeting my preschool teacher Mrs. Wilkinson, for the first time. I began sketching and coping designs from books, magazines and even reduplicating hanging on the walls. My first sketch that caught my parent’s eye was when I sketched a picture of my father at the age of ten. My father had a round face with a mustache. My parents realize that I had a gift for talent and begin supporting me. My father bought me my first paint set for a Christmas present. I was so excited about my art kit. It had so many colors of paint to choose. I remember painting and drawing everything in site. By the age of sixteen, I had developed a creative spirit of being a teacher, and wanted to share my creativity with others. Now I am a preschool teacher and my favorite part of the day is art. The children are creative in so many ways. I am so proud to share my creativity with my children, and it’s an experience to see the children develop and grow in their own creative ways. Brenda
