These people are called humanist. Many people believe that Ancient Greece is just famous for the movie “Hercules” and those columns on the White House. The truth is, that if the Ancient Greeks didn’t accomplish as much as they had, then life today would be drastically altered. The Greeks are a huge part of our culture, customs, and government. The Ancient Greeks are the most significant to western culture because of its creation of different types of government, ideas on philosophy, and the impact of Hellenistic culture.

Ancient art is very important to us today. Ancient art is the period of art that was from the Paleolithic age through the Middle Ages. The reason that ancient art is important to us is because it is what we can look at to relate to the ancient people of our history. Without obtaining ancient art, we would not know nearly as much as we do know now about ancient times. Ancient art reveals so much about the lifestyles of the ancient people and society.
Revealed through the prose of the Odyssey are the values and characteristics that define the culture of “Homeric Greece”. Chief among these are Arete (excellence/virtue), Phronesis (practical wisdom/wit), Kratos (strength/power), Oikos (family/loyalty), Xenia (hospitality), and Kleos (glory). Being in a collegiate Greek organization I am no stranger to Arete as it is ultimately, like the heroes of Homer, what we seek to attain, as we put it: “to achieve a sound mind in a sound body” so that we may best “become balanced men and leaders for the world’s communities”. The stories of the Iliad and the Odyssey are ones of great men and women seeking Arete. By endeavoring to achieve this greatness through grand words and deeds one could also attain Kleos, or glory, something the ancient Greeks valued highly.
Marcos Galan Jr. 2/16/12 My Comparison Between John Locke & Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were two of the utmost political and philosophical theorists of their time and ours. Both philosophers each provide marvelous philosophical texts on how our government should govern us. Both contributed their ideas to the Enlightenment and made an impact all over the world. John Locke’s ideas influenced the United States Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Federalist Papers while Thomas Hobbes’s ideas refuted England’s parliament. Notions like these have sculpted governments throughout history and still hold true in our current times.
Eastern Religious Philosopher Quotation Plato’s most distinguished pupil was the philosopher known as Aristotle (384-322 B.C.E. ), a Greek philosopher and scientist. Aristotle was a teacher to one of the greatest individuals known to mankind and had wrote many books relating to metaphysics as well as his painstaking attention to nature although Aristotle was not a main staple of any decent literature program (McGraw-Hill, 2008). Aristotle’s quote “Education is the best provision for old age (Wikiquote, 2011),” is one of his most familiar to the world and is an accurate representation of his ideas, historical significance, and key contributions in my personal opinion because he was able to teach Alexander the Great at an older age to turned out to become one of the most powerful of his time by conquering all from what Aristotle had taught him. Aristotle had also extended the limits of knowledge in virtually every existing subject which are now deemed as the province of philosophy in today’s world (McGraw-Hill, 2008).
Their traditional rules, about festivals and sanctuaries, were there to be obeyed without question.” This exemplifies that the Greek gods were of high importance and held the power to determine and undermine the way Spartan society, military and religion was practised in everyday life. Their worship emphasized the attributes most relevant to the city's ideals. The Dioscuri, Castor and Polydeuces, were twin gods who play an important part in Spartan society and worship as they were known and associated as young men and their pursuits of horsemanship, athletics, warfare and protectors of guests

Discuss the reliability and usefulness of ancient and modern sources in contributing to knowledge about the battle of Salamis The Battle of Salamis was one of the most significant battles in human history. Why? Well, although it happened centuries ago, the Greek win influenced the growth and preservation of Athenian democracy and influenced Western civilization’s core ideas of freedom and individual rights. Good morning/afternoon Mrs Harnack and students; we are able to learn this through the accounts of ancient sources, and the interpretations of modern sources. By analyzing ancient and modern sources we are able to gain a deeper understanding of the Battle of Salamis and the factors that led to the turning point in the Greek-Persian Wars.
One of the favorite topics for sculptors was that of the athlete. In Greek culture athletes were described as "hero–athletes". This shows that athletes were revered and looked upon as heroes. The influence of athleticism is evident in many famous sculptures. I will attempt to show how the human form influenced Greek art.
