This change of emotions is caused by her overpowering love for Romeo. Her intense love for Romeo gives her to forgive him, as she thinks of reasons to justify Romeo’s actions. From “That villain cousin would have killed my husband” and “My husband lives, that Tybalt would have slain, / And Tybalt’s dead, that would have slain my husband.”, she convinces herself that Tybalt would have killed Romeo even if he did not die first, hence showing her loyalties lie with Romeo, not Tybalt or the Capulets any longer. For the main character paul in the novel his human experiences can sometimes be over dramatized. This is demonstared through the images of pauls bizare and overstated world “ the moths that fludded the fly scream...size of bats”. In this quotation goldsworthy uses exageration which provokes the audience to imagine that there is a hint of something threatening and dangerous ahead. This is futher represented in the sentence “ like some lush green, five o'clock shadow”. The visually realised enviroment brings out more harsh qualities of human characters who inhabit it and further leads us to understand how the individual sees and percieves the world.

It has something to do with death. Also the repetition of certain words in topics of conversation, such as funeral, the use of those constantly being repeated and emphasised. Almost childish "trying to wind her sister up" shows a childish side to her, slightly mean side. Repeats Stella's name, could be as not to loose her trip on reality or loose her sanity, amongst her painful recollections from belle reve.
Steward uses metaphors to create a distinct image of the cats within the readers, “those outlaws prowling about the Domain”.
