My Career As A Network Administrator Misty Talley Everest University SLS 1105 My Career As A Network Administrator My goal for the future is to become a network administrator. A network administrator is a professional in charge of the maintenance of the computer hardware and software systems that make up a computer network. The actual role of the network administrator varies from company to company, but usually includes tasks such as network address assignment, assignment of routing protocols and routing table configuration as well as configuration of authentication and authorization-directory services (Schneider, L 2012) I chose this career because of my interest in computers and also due to the fact that computers are used worldwide and this would be a promising career that is only growing larger and larger. How to Become A Network Administrator In order to become a Network Administrator you must have a bachelor’s degree, and some positions require an associate’s degree or professional certification along with work experience.. the most common educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree in Fields related to computer or information science. Because they work with computer hardware and equipment, a degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering is usually acceptable also. Also, some companies may require their network and computer systems administrators to be certified in the products they use. Some of the commonly used certifications are Microsoft, Red Hat, and Cisco. Because network technology is continually changing, administrators need to keep up with the latest developments, so they continue to take courses throughout their careers.
