The book Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse is one of the best books I have read in school. When I began reading it I did not understand the title, but as I read more I began to understand. Nyle is a young who cannot accept losses. Except when the accident in Cookshire took place she had to learn how to let go. Nyle’s Grandma allowed two evacuees, a mother and her very sick son, to settle in her house until the boy got better.
I was the only child, so it was fairly quiet around the house. I would come home and sit on the couch and do my homework as my mom occasionally came around to see how I was doing. Whenever I slacked off, she made sure that I got back on the right track and got each part of my work done for school in the morning. Sometimes I would wait until the last minute to do projects for classes. I mainly pushed them off because elementary teachers always wanted some kind of colorful and creative diorama or drawing.
However in the movie no character stayed in the room with the yellow wallpaper and because the husband had few jobs available he came home at a reasonable time at nights and they both went to sleep at the same time in another bedroom. Which showed that the wife was mentally well when they first arrived because she was able to write her book and slept at normal sleeping times. Likewise in both scenarios at the end of both the story and movie Charlotte became the lady behind the yellow wallpaper. As if she was destined to become apart of the mystery behind the wallpaper because in both aspects she never feared the horror she felt but became more eager to know what was going on. At the end of the day no matter if she was ill or grieving the author/director wanted us to know that she was still the woman behind the wallpaper even if she had to find out herself in the story or her husband had to accept it and place her there in the
In “The Story of an Hour” Mrs. Mallard was made to stay home because she was a woman who had a heart condition. She gained a lot of time to do whatever she wanted at home, but did she didn’t really have to stay. Women were expected to restrict their interests to the home and the family. It was just that women would always listen to their husbands and most of the time, the husband’s word always triumphs over the woman’s wants. Mrs. Mallard longed for freedom “There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair.
She worked hand in hand with the co-workers. she made friends, over time, with the other girls who work my shift. “we sit down on the edge of a bed and giggle for a moment as if this was a pajama party instead of a terminally dead-end job”(75 reading across the curriculum, pages 395-426, paragraph 57). They form a reliable mutual supporting group whereby if any of them feels sick or overwhelmed, someone will help “bev” a table or help her carry trays or if someone is off sneaking a cigarette or a pee, the others will do their best to conceal her absence. Barbara was able to maintain herself economically.
In her photographs, the babies are almost always sleeping or in a daze. “We go to great measures to create a peaceful and comfortable environment for the babies and their parents…Generally whenever you see sleeping babies in my images, they are newborns. Babies who are this young generally sleep a lot, and a change of environment doesn’t bother them at all. As long as they are fed, they usually sleep for long periods of time” She explains. But how does she photograph something so notoriously difficult?
She talks about the books she has hidden under her bed; she reminds her siblings to do their homework and takes great pleasure in reciting new words to her sister and teacher. Mom is often talking or playing or feeding one of the other kids so Mary has taken her time alone to further educate herself. In many single parents homes children see the almost unbearable struggle that their parent has to bear and this would serve as encouragement to the child, to excel in his or her studies to secure a better future for them. A better education will lead to a better job and a more secure
It mentions that Leroy once bought his wife a new piano as a gift and how happy she was and lovingly she touched it as she played it. The piano symbolizes the love he has for her and how over time as she stop playing the piano and their love starts to fade. She was gental and caring to the keys as she was to the marrage before everything changed. The past tense of the sentence show the fact that that was then and this is now, and their love is gone. :… He used to stay in the house with Norma Jean.. Now he is home alone most of the time.” It is clear that she doesn’t want to spend time with him like they use to.
This experience loosened the bad vibes and created a sense of togetherness between all three characters. As the night passed by and the narrators wife had fallen asleep, the narrator asks Robert if he’d like to go to bed and Robert reply’s “No, I’ll stay up with you, bub. If that’s all right. I’ll stay up until you’re ready to turn in. We haven’t had a chance to talk.
Additionally, I even read you your favorite book while you were in bed. For example, if I didn’t do all these nice favors for you, you would have been bored to death while you were sick. Therefore, I ask for you to drive me to Knott’s this weekend. Consequently, I believe that you should drive me to knots this weekend because I helped you with your laundry, I walk your dog every day in the park, and I watched over you while you were sick in bed. In order to solve this situation, I suggest that if you drive me to Knots, I will do all your chores for a week.
