In the two short stories it seems as if the sons’ relationships with their father were quite different, but they also had their similarities because both of them cared for their son. In the story “Powder” the father took good care of his son for he continually tried to give his son what he thought was best. He fought for the privilege to see his son after he already snuck him into a jazz club to see Thelonious Monk (Wolff 1). He was a good dad, for as his son says “He wouldn’t give up. He promised, hand on heart, to take good care of me and have me home for dinner on Christmas Eve” (Wolff 1).
He always loves to help others and teach good things to his children. He was also clever person because he knew who was right and who was wrong. He helped his contractor of his house by buying him a new truck so that he could be happy and work very hard to make his house strong. Victor and Joseph were always curious and used to ask a lot of questions to his father. That day also they ask him a question about whey was he buying the truck to his contractor.
Baba’s biggest admirer is his own son, Amir has always looked up to Baba and wanted him to care about him and love him. Looney has just pulled G aside to show him his report card of “straight A’s” which turned out to be a little off but Father Greg decides to support Looney and show compassion because he is proud of him regardless. Looney actually only got one A grade but didn’t receive any bad marks and G is very proud of him for this.
My fiance and I have been together for a year and a half now. We get along great and would do anything for each other. The problem that I have is anytime I ask him to do something or reach something for me, he assumes that is my way of hinting to him that I want to be intimate. In the novel, Finney repeatedly refuses to listen to the facts of Gene breaking Finney’s leg because he “do[esn’t] care,” (Knowles 151). Because Finney wouldn’t listen, he ran out and ends up breaking his own leg, and since he is reluctant to face reality, he gets sent to the hospital. Likewise, during the movie, even when Neil is not allowed to participate in the play, because of his strong passion for acting he still goes on with his part, though it upsets his father deeply (Dead Poets’ Society). Because Neil acts in the play, it causes his father to be infuriated with him, and Finney’s father decides to ship him off to another school. Both examples show how each of the boys are opposed to face their own realities, and because of this they end up hurting themselves.
