CASE STUDY FOR MUSLIMA SHORA. Muslima is a twelve years old girl who hails from Riketa village in Tana Delta district. She is the second born in a family of five. Muslima was one of the survivors of the 22nd August 2012 dawn massacre that took place in Riketa village. The massacre was one of the severest tribal attacks pitting the pokomos and Ormas in Tana Delta district of the Northern Coast of Kenya. The dawn attack saw 52 people killed; 35 women, 14 children, 6 men. Scores of others survived with injuries. Muslima was among the survivors so was her young brother Jillo Shora four years old, she had a deep cut of spear which was had pierced through the back of her neck. She was taken to Coast general Hospital for treatment where she spent 22 days in hospital. She was later discharged when her condition became stable. After a few weeks her condition started deteriorating and her parents did not have funds to take her to hospital since they had lost everything in that raid. It was at this point when AAIK was responding to the emergency situation in Tana Delta, stepped in to support the family. Action Aid Wenje LRP facilitated travel arrangement for her to be taken to Malindi District hospital. She was later referred to Coast general hospital for minor surgery which was successfully done and the jovial girl discharged on 13th November 2012. Mzee Jillo Shora 65 years, Muslima’s grandfather expressed his gratitude by saying "am very grateful to Action Aid for helping us to take my granddaughter to hospital, we had lost hope and we thought she will not survive this time, we do not have money to take her back to hospital as all our property had been burnt down to ashes and the cattle killed.
