Musical Inspiration ***Albert Einstein so poignantly said “I do not teach anyone. I only provide the environment in which they can learn.” My 7th grade Chorus teacher Mrs. Simpkins did just that, the four walls of her classroom fostered an environment that nurtured the minds of her students. Her office door was always open for us to share our problems with her, without being afraid or hesitant. Mrs. Simpkins had the perfect mixture of qualities to inspire her students, those including kindness, listening, and knowledge. ------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Simpkins was a very kind teacher. She relayed this quality by being unbiased. She did not show any ethnic or racial bias in the classroom. This may have been difficult for a lesser teacher due to the diversity of our class but, Mrs. Simpkins avoided this by teaching our chorus class the classic song “Ebony and Ivory” in preparation for the school’s Spring Concert. Her impartiality equipped me with the tools needed to be a productive member of a society that at times does not seem to embrace diversity. Undoubtedly, Mrs. Simpkins’ kindness did lend to a unique aspect of her personality that being her listening ability. ------------------------------------------------- Certainly, one would expect a teacher as masterful as Mrs. Simpkins to be a good listener, and not to be denied listening was another trait that contributed to her being my favorite teacher. As a student you were comforted by her listening skills because of her ability to do so with an accepting attitude free of judgment. She would follow up on problems brought to her by students, this was reassuring because we realized she had listened. Her attentiveness through listening was a characteristic that set Mrs. Simpkins apart from the good teachers and made her a great teacher. I can say with assuredness that Mrs.
