MUSIC AND ITS INFLUENCE IN THE PEOPLE INTRODUCTION The influence of music can be greater than we imagine For 2500 years, music has been considered a force so powerful and influential in society that most philosophers and politicians have called for its control, including through the establishment of their nation. This was the case in Sparta and Athens. In Japan, in the third century BC, was established an imperial office of music (the Jagaku-ryo) for controlling music activities. Other ancient cultures, such as those from Egypt, India and China, expressed similar concerns. Today, a legislative or governmental control of this kind would be almost inconceivable, but even in this century; there are governments that have implemented laws to control the music. Many people believe that music is simply music that does not involve any problem and therefore does not require any assessment. Moreover, why so much concern about music? What is the problem? For our ancestors answers were clear. They believed that music directly affects the will, which in turn influenced the nature and hence on human behavior. For example, Aristotle taught that ¨ the music imitates directly ( represents) the passions or states of soul-gentleness, anger, courage, temperance, and their opposites and other qualities, so when one listens to music mimics some feeling or passion, is imbued by the same passion.
