I believe very stongly in the power of music to influence people’s lives. Dictionary.com defines music as “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” The path I have chosen in this world is that of Opera performance. I live and learn through music, and it certainly has power over me. Where not everyone can perform music, a smaller amount of people can read music, and an even smaller amount still can compose music, everyone in the world can listen to music. It is recognized all over the world, and it has the ability to bring people together in times of joy, tragedy, war, and peace.
I believe that singing is not just an art; it's a means of expressing one's emotions. Thus, my innate passion for singing, coupled with my love for music comes from deep within my soul, mind and heart. When I sing, I sing with all of me, putting everything I can into it, and that's exactly what makes me feel complete.Even if the sounds aren't perfect or correct, every little bit helps me get through the day. When stressed, nothing helps me more than singing. I have always had a great passion for singing.
My approach to how I “read” the medium of Classical Music? I have been a fan of classical music since my early twenty’s where I discovered its magical supremacy while pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree at Warner Pacific College in the early 80’s. I was first introduced to classical music by a classmate who told me “it would help me study.” To my surprise he was right! Quite amazing considered my nickname given by fellow team members on the WPC basketball team was “disco.” I have continued to enjoy the brilliance and wonderful ability of classical music to calm my mind, allowing for clear thoughts to arise. As I listen to Symphony No.
The Way the Wind Blows Everyone loves music. Music is everywhere, it pervades our world. Everyone knows music has power and importance. But have you ever stopped to consider why? What it is about music that gives it so much power and importance?
I made this choice because for me music has always been a great thing to turn to when things became rough, my favourite songs are the ones that I can relate to, music is something that always stayed the same even though everything else in my life was completely changing. My main goals and hopes are to tell people about the positive effects of music on our body, health, emotions and society; try to prove that the media is wrong for blaming music for violence in today's world and get to know more about my topic. In general, music can be considered to be the six elements : rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics and form. Music is also used to help people, for example music therapy. But in our modern world, music means different things to different people.
Neurobiologist Mark Jude Tramo of Harvard Medical School states: “music is a biologically part of human life, just as music is aesthetically part of human life (Brewer).” This essay will explain why music is an indispensable part for a successful education. The three main arguments that support the thesis are that music lets an individual reach an optimal states of mind, enhances creativity and helps one to develop skills that are vital for the learning process. Through out history, for thousands of years people have sung for enjoyment and to ease the burdens of work, family and society. This has been true for all cultures around the world. In the middle ages workmen used songs, poems and even rhymes to ease the work and be able to build all the great medieval cathedrals (MacDonald).
In this essay, Venda’s music culture is contemplated as a whole, taking into account the group’s total involvement with music, ideas, actions, institutions, and material objects (Titon and Slobin 2002:4). Blacking (1973:37) posits that in Venda society, every person is believed to have musical ability. While Western models often limit musicality through standards that inhibit participation and encourage music as an individual pursuit, the contrary is the case for the Venda; Venda music culture deemphasizes the individual and values music making as a means for group solidarity and communal bonding (Hargreaves, Miell and MacDonald, 2012:100). In other words, it is through collective music making that the Venda construct shared experiences. Perhaps, the importance of such shared musical experiences to the Venda lies in the fact that the musical voice in Venda culture is inherently entwined with Venda identity at its core.
Why Music Education Is Important When educational cuts are made, music and art are amongst the first subjects to go. Unfortunately, it means that parents, educators and even board members are overlooking each subject`s importance. Music education is more than just introducing students to beats, notes and songs. Instead, it completely transforms a child`s mind and opens up endless possibilities to their learning potential. One of the most notable studies on music and the brain, the Mozart Effect, began as a college research experiment.
He makes clear and points out the distinction between what one would think this book would be about- an ABC of music, and what the book actually is about- the way of thinking about music, a map of all the music in the world and the perception of music people should have. The author makes sure that everyone who is ready to read the book, would get the basic idea about it form the very beginning- this is a book which would learn one how to understand music, this is a book which would learn one how not only to listen, but to actually hear the music and its meaning, this is a book which would awaken some people and show them how music is not only a simple melody, but rather a filled with human feelings piece of art. However hard I try I could not be able to better expess the main statement the authour makes in the following sentence : Music does not just happen,it is what we make it, what we make of it. Professor Cook completes this profoundly inspiring foreword with a proof that music does really matter and that musicology is actually quite needed. While opposing Elvis Costello’s famous words that writing about music is like dancing about Architecture, the author concludes his thesis implying that: ‘We use words to say what music cannot say, to say what we mean by music, what music means to us.And in the end, it is largely words that determine
Specifically, one will read of how music is a powerful tool of rhetoric that has been used as protest, as a means of raising awareness and of uniting a group of people. Music is persuasive through the use of ethos, pathos and logos and the research involved clearly outlines just how this is done. When any intelligent person is asked about systems of communication or mass media, a few staple mediums come to mind; television, magazines, newspapers, radio. But what do these mediums actually do? In simplest of terms, these mediums provide us with information.
