1. How does Murray’s overcome one of the most common limitations facing small companies, its nonexistent advertising budget? Murray’s overcomes it’s nonexistent advertising budget by providing great customer service. To achieve this, Murray’s starts with personal selling. Murray’s must find salespeople who are passionate about both cheese and people. Then they train them carefully, making sure they know how to inform the customers of their products. By listening to the customers, understanding what they are interested in, and trying to find the right product for their situations. Customers have a chance to sample different products, (including taste,) and allows them to choose what they enjoy best. This usually upgrades the purchase of product, because the customer is purchasing extra items that they haven’t planned on buying. This customer sampling format also helps with repeat customers. Customers are usually very pleased with the opportunity to sample new products and they then want to come back and enjoy the same great services and products again. 2. What are some of the advantages of being a small business that Murray’s can (or does) take advantage of? What disadvantages might it face as a small firm? One of Murray’s advantages of being a small business is that they can adapt to changes quickly. They do not need anyone else’s permission to do so. They keep their customers happy, by catering to customers’ needs and wants; like different merchandise, services, store hours, and price strategies. Another advantage is Murray’s personal relationships with their employees. Murray’s is a small company employing around 70 or so people, making it much easier to know each other personally.
