Cosi The particular aspect of love that is the focus of the play is fidelity; the notion of faithfulness, commitment and loyalty. The play explores many aspects of love, the characters present slightly different perspectives, some final about their positions from the start and others change or develop differing perspectives. This concept is explored through the individual characters Lucy and Lewis. Using the technique of characterisation, Nowra is able to present the idea of ‘free love’ negatively to the audience through the character Lucy. Who strongly endorses the idea that love is an indulgence, “After bread, shelter, equality, health, procreation, money comes maybe love” .
Tom is married to Daisy Buchanan and had a beautiful daughter with her. Although Tom had said his vows to Daisy and kissed her on their wedding day, he cheats on her, hits her, and shows no affection towards his daughter. When Tom found out that his wife had begun relations with Jay Gatsby, he set his mind only on Gatsby and wanted to fill his knowledge with Gatsby’s every move. Once he found out all about Gatsby, Tom confronted him in front of Daisy about all the illegal things Tom has heard. Hoping to end relations between Daisy and Jay, Tom did not hold back when confronting Gatsby.
I believe that when they first got married there was some kind of love in their relationship, but when they realized they could not conceive a child Don Elias blamed his wife. Even though it was most likely he was the infertile one, he treated her as if all she was good for was to take care of him like a maid. This is what made her a hard, bitter old woman. Dona Matilida believes it was her fault, and feels guilty about not being able to provide him with a child he so greatly desired. This caused her to turn a blind eye to what he was doing around town with other women.
However, as he continues to perform with the patients finds for himself that love is most definitely imperative for humans. Love is one of the main themes of ‘Cosi’. The play suggests many different aspects of love by giving us the different opinions of love from the main characters. Ultimately throughout the play the changed values that Lewis has on love, the faith that Cherry has towards Lewis and the loyalty that Julie displays towards her lover shapes Nowra’s views on love. Then when she gave birth to her twins sons, she acted as if she did not want them and I believe that Cathy was selfish was because she shot her husband in the shoulder. Also Faye left all of her earnings and possessions, including the brothel to Cathy in her will. So in order to take advantage of Faye Cathy poisoned her until she died. I do not think this was right of Cathy because Faye truly seemed to care about her. If I had the opportunity to meet Catherine Amesbury or Cathy Ames I would not take it.
His criminal family frustrates Sarty in that he just wants to live a normal life. In a rose for Emily” Emily is heavily affected by her relatives. Going insane runs in her family with her great aunt (her dads sister) also being a little crazy. So she is at a disadvantage from the start. Her father doesn’t help the situation because he shields her from the outside world and “chases away potential suitors because none of them are good enough for his daughter” (p.6”A Rose for Emily”).
She is a temptress who disturbs the fraternity of the men, for whenever she enters the bunkhouse, or at least stands in the doorway, preventing the men's passage, Curley's wife is a source of tension: The men worry that they will succumb to her physical allure; they worry that Curley will appear and become jealous and enraged against them. Once she has tempted Lennie, he sins and kills her--albeit accidentally. At any rate, the death of Curley's wife is the end of the "dream" for Lennie and George and Candy. It’s really sad that all of this could have been avoided if Juliet would’ve just left with Romeo or if their families gave up their hatred for one another. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet’s personality drastically changes. At first Romeo was love-sick and Juliet didn’t want anything to do with marriage. Then they meet, fall in love and get married.
Romeo and Juliet wish to get married soon after they meet even though they know their marriage will cause great unrest for both families. Because Juliet wants to marry Romeo and not Paris, she drinks a sedative before she is to marry Paris to make her appear dead so that she may later marry Romeo. However, when Romeo hears that she is dead he becomes hysterical and gets drinks a vial of poison so he could be with her. None of this would have happened if the families could put aside their hate for each other. Similarly, Mercutio and Tybalt hate each other and will take any chance they get to kill the other.
He sneaks into the ball and if he would not have been in the Capulet’s house, he would have never met Juliet. At the ball he also makes Tybalt angry, which makes the feud worse. Romeo’s bad decisions lead to the death of many characters including Tybalt, Paris and his true love Juliet. Juliet also made bad decisions which lead to her death. For example, when she trusts the Friar to get the information to Romeo.
