The Multicultural Threat Political Science - 324 November 25th 2011 In a growing globalized society a state has many challenges it must face. International trade, multiculturalism, state security and economic prosperity are only some of the many important aspects a strong state must deal with. Canada and its peoples have a reputation of being very multicultural and accepting of others, a characteristic many Canadians wear with a great deal of pride. However due to the fact that the world is not one of a complete utopian society, there are some inherent trade offs that occur in encompassing these types of policies. However, when we do a cost benefit analysis of the inherent security threats that come with multiculturalism, one can see that it is for the betterment of all Canadians to continue with a multicultural policy. We have examined how both the niqab and kirpan are significant aspects of religious accommodations and how neither one presents a reasonable security threat to Canada. Furthermore, we can see how having a state that cares so much about reasonable accommodation has been beneficial as it creates an atmosphere that is more accepting and helps to promote growth. It can also be determined that if we as a state relax our immigration policy too much that our accepting ways could make Canada an easy target for any potential enemies. Canada has an important role to play in the globalized society and must be willing to take the first steps to creating a more equal civilization for all. Although we can only speculate where Canada’s policies will turn in the future, it is quite clear that Canada must continue with the current trends and have multiculturalism as a constantly influential aspect of Canadian…show more content…
