When such cases are reported many people come to know about it and the victim is looked down upon. 5. Why are issues of harassment and bullying so difficult to resolve? (3 marks) Because freedom of speech issues clouds the distinction between harassment and comment. A lot of the time people are scared to give the bully away because the bully has threatened them, also it is also hard to detect a bully when the bullying is cyber because nobody has seen the bully do it face to
Harper Lee shows the racist social values that most of the inhabitants of Maycomb County follow are one of the factors that cause Atticus Finch’s defense to fail. In Maycomb, hating black people is a never-ending trend. Even though almost everyone follows it, Atticus does not. He is one of the only characters in the novel that has good social values and does not judge one by his or her skin colour. Although he has a feeling that he is not going to win the case, he still does the right thing by
Due to the different ethnicities, many immigrants found the transition to American life quite difficult, despite their efforts to ease the transition by assimilation into U.S. society. (Schultz, 2014) The repaid expansion of American cities caused the appearance of tenements, something never before seen. The tenements were narrow four to five-story buildings with few windows, limited plumbing and electricity. (Schultz, 2014) The tenements nurtured disease, high infant mortality, and horrendous issues with pollution, and were often the site of racial and ethnic
It was a hard time for those people always being accused for something they didn't do, and if they got raped treated wrong most of the law wouldn't do anything about it since their white and they don't care. Luckily like Maya it got better for those people and they could live their live semi-peacefully. There will always be racism and there is not much people can do about in the year 2010 there are laws that give all rights to other races and racism is a lot lower then it is now, but a few people still think that colored people should have no rights and thats
Academically the Saints was expected to do well in school because of who their parents were and family social status. The Roughnecks wasn’t at all concerned about how they performed in school. In the end both groups had the ability to do well but made different choices due to different backgrounds. 4. Compare and contrast the treatment of the saints and the roughnecks by the police.
There was also a lack of communication amongst FEMA and ARC, which contributed to slow response times in both instances (347). ARC has a policy in place on screening volunteers; however, they failed to follow their own procedures during Hurricane Katrina, which ultimately resulted in mismanagement of donated funds to the organization. This caused investors to question if they should remain loyal to such an unethical organization. Customer satisfaction was low and citizens started to wonder whether or not they should continue to donate to cause. The organization relies heavily on donations from both the public and private sectors, therefore the actions of the organization that occurred after these disasters could result in a decline in their bottom line.
If you really want to stop kids from getting into gangs, the parents just have to support their children and spend time with them to see how they’re doing. If children know they have someone who is going to support them and who cares for them, they may not have to go to the streets and rely on them to survive just to live another day. Like the saying “Every man has good woman behind them” if every kid had good family supporting them everyone’s lives would be much easier. As adults we should understand as we get older there are more responsibilities and things for us to do, but that doesn’t mean that parents don’t support us any more because we’re kids and we are still learning to become adults. (McHugh pg 166) Until we get to the age of not being treated like a child, we won’t need their guidance to make sure that we stay on the right path and are being the best people we can be.
An immigration reform would give many immigrants health insurance that they cannot easily get as an illegal person. Many immigrants don’t have regular checkups as a typical US citizen has. In some cases this cause transsexual diseases between people do to the lack of medical checkups in immigrants. Something that could be stopped with the help of medical health insurance. As health insurance would help US citizens and immigrant’s health, a driver’s license would increase safety on the street.
It is well documented that children in countries throughout the world are both physically and sexually abused within their own families, even though article 19 states that every child is protected by law (UNICEF 2001). Helfer et al., (1997) believes that if we want to make the best decisions, then we need the best information available. However many young people themselves do not believe that they should involve outsiders as testified by Cawson (2002). The NSPCC prevalence study found that only a quarter of people who had experienced sexual abuse as a child told anyone at the time because they were worried they would
Even Asian-Americans who were born and raised in the United States and their families have resided in here for many generations are still discriminated against. They are not regularly seen as American citizens but instead as outsiders or intruders that do not belong here, even though they were born and raised here. American culture has benefited from the numerous contributions that Asians and Asian-Americans have brought with them, shared with us, or even taught us. The first example of this that comes to mind is complementary and alternative medicine, such as acupuncture and yoga. The second thing that I can think of is their religions, such as Buddhism and Thai temples/religion.
