Movie Theaters vs Home Movies

Home or Theater Since the beginning of time, people have been looking for ways to entertain themselves and bring joy to their lives if even for a moment. When motion pictures and eventually movie theaters came into existence, people were mesmerized with the idea of going and watching a “motion picture show”. In the mid 1930’s the cost of going to the movies was about 25 cents and at the time was considered to be somewhat expensive. In the mid to late 1970’s the VHS (Video Home System) was introduced by Victor Company of Japan (JVC). With that came a radical change in how people viewed television but also movies. Today’s society is blessed with endless choices and options, as it pertains to cinematic entertainment. In this essay I want to compare and contrast as well as explore the differences in watching a movie at home on your home entertainment systems or going to a theater to view a movie. To begin, the first point of discussion is the convenience (or inconvenience) of these activities. Watching a movie at home is entirely more convenient than going out to a movie at a theater. At home you are able to play a movie of your choice, curl up on your sofa in your pajamas and watch the movie any time you feel like watching it. You are not constrained by a time for which a movie is being played at the theater. If it is raining or cold, you are able to stay within the confines of your home. Also, if you have to go to the restroom in a movie theater, you have to climb out of your row over people while the movie is playing, miss part of the movie and go to a public restroom which in and of itself is not always a pleasant experience. At home, all you have to do is press the pause button, take care of business, and return to your sofa and press play.
