Movie Score: Defiance The score of the movie Defiance is written by James Newton Howard. Things that were used to make this score are as follows: percussion, violins, chimes, etc. This movie was actually filmed in Lithuania at an outdoor museum. The score was probably composed in a studio somewhere on-site. The director of Blood Diamond directed this film also. James Newton Howard scored Blood Diamond as well. The director, Edward Zwick, asked James Newton Howard asked him to score Defiance, because he liked how well James Newton Howard scored Blood Diamond. I like this movie score a lot because Defiance is my favorite movie of all time. James Newton Howard made and absolute amazing score for this movie. It goes very well with the movie. It has a European and World War II feel to it. In my opinion there is only one weakness. It is when there is a chase scene it has the typical chase music. I do not like that all, but it’s not that big of a deal. It definitely fits with the setting of the forest because it has that outdoor feel to it also. Tuvia Bielski goes to an SS officer’s household and shoots his family, except for his wife. The music in this scene is very grim. When the actual shooting happens the music escalates very quickly. Also, when the wife begins to weep for her family the music becomes very sorrowful. When there is a romantic scene between Zus Bielski, and a fellow companion. The woman grabs Zus’ hand, and puts his hand on her heart. The music when this scene occurs is very heart warming and
