Nosferatu, Vampire, Dracula. These are the names of cursed a man
who has appeared in stories. The stories explain how the man became a
monster and how he lives his cruel life.
This story of “Dracula” was created by Irish novelist Bram Stoker in the
early nineteen hundreds. F.W Murnau directed a film in the nineteen
twenty’s called Nosferatu:A Symphony of Horror. This was a silent German
film based on Bram Stokers Dracula. In the era when Nosferatu was
created they did not have the rights to take Bram Stokers novel and
produce a film. These film makers decided to change the name Dracula to
Nosferatu which is mostly perceived as Undead, or vampire. How ever, this
word is not in the Romanian dictionary. Later in nineteen seventy-nine
Werner Herzog remade Nosferatu.
In the year two thousand a horror film named Shadow of The Vampire
was released. This film was directed by E. Elias Merhige also featuring the
talented actors John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe.
Shadow of The Vampire takes us back to nineteen twenty Germany.
John Malkovich plays the role of director F.W Murnau. He travels to a very
rural area of Germany in search of Count Orlok (Count Dracula) to make
his film. In this movie the person who plays the vampire, is not an actor. He
is a monster who lives in a castle. Willem Dafoe plays the role of Count
Orlok(Count Dracula).He is a bloodthirsty monster who makes a deal with
the director to shoot a film.
Although the actors performances are great, the cinematography
brings you on the scene. The various lighting techniques and camera
operations emits the moods of the story. The Dracula story consists of
