An average American just as I have buys their SONY LCD television excited about the amazing image, or how great football will look on Sunday. The one thing that does not go though our minds is why is it that I bought this television for cheap? The answer is very simple. After purchasing this book, I read the back of the cover and was intrigued and interested by the noble idea Barbara Ehrenreich sets out to investigate –the many trials and tribulations of low-income workers in America. It’s easy to watch any mainstream television show such as “The OC,” and get a false perception of the American Dream. But rarely do people get to see the true American Dream – Joe the Plumber, err… Landscaper, making minimum wage and trying to keep his 1983 Honda Accord running properly day after day, all while trying to scrounge up enough money to make his monthly rent. With that being said, I believe that anyone can overcome economical difficulties, if they put forth the hard work and manage their budget correctly. Ehrenreich’s egotistical perceptions compromised her investigation, and failed to change my opinion on poverty and prosperity.
Chris Sarpong Throughout my life I have heard people say that when an event of great historical importance occurs, a person remembers every detail for the rest of their life. My parents remember vividly the day President Kennedy was killed. I never really believed that I would experience anything so important that it would change me forever. The events of January 28, 1986 proved me wrong. When I was six, my parents decided they needed a change of scenery, so we moved to Titusville, Florida.

I was pregnant and, we did not know whether raising a family in New York City would be in the best interest of our family. While on vacation in Daytona Beach, Florida, my husband and I had a hair raising idea and, we decided to move our family from New York City to sunny Florida.
The Boatman’s are huge St. Louis Cardinals fans and they have season tickets every year. Other than coming to celebrate my Grammy’s birthday, one of the other reasons that my Uncle Buck and Aunt Julie came to Troy was to finish my Aunt Julie’s Invisaline. Essentially, Invisaline is a retainer like form of braces but they are invisible, hence the name. Invisaline is a very costly procedure and my Uncle Rich did it for free for her, like all of the other dental work he graciously does for our family. The night before we left for home, we were going to take a trip to the dental office after dinner to make the final touches on Julie’s Invisaline.
Growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, I didn’t know that we were poor. My mother had five sisters and five brothers and most of them had children, so I was around family all of the time, having ten people living in a three bedroom home, and with all the dogs and cats my grandmother used to own never really seemed abnormal. I overheard my mother carol and father Robert talking about how people from the islands migrate to America in order to seek better opportunities. Night after night I would hear them fighting weather to go or not, but ultimately after a few months of thinking they eventually came to a unanimous decision… so that’s what they did. At first my father was against this, he kept saying ‘’I have a good paying job here, I don’t want to come over’’ but my mother’s
