4. What are 3 or 4 specific behaviors/skills/competencies that Rob Parson needs to develop to become a better leader at Morgan Stanley. Rob Parson needs develop these three types of skills; Team management, Supportive and Achievement Oriented Skills. In terms of his team management skills, Rob Parson has not been working with his teammates in the department. The environment within Morgan Stanley fosters teamwork and innovation, building consensus and treating employees with dignity and respect. Parson was placed into the environment for the sole purpose of improving the Capital Markets division. Parson needed to get people involved with the negotiations of clients for business in the division. While Rob is passionate and determined to achieve the goal set forth by the company to improve its presence in the capital market, he also needs to treat his coworkers with respect and stimulate participation from them in order to grow the division. Parson needs to have a supportive leadership ability as his coworkers see him as arrogant, inconsiderate, overbearing and inconsistent. He needs to become more friendly and approachable which would help in building an effective interpersonal relationship among his peers. Parson should be seen as a considerate and friendly individual towards people, and in turn will be more likely to win their friendship and loyalty. If he can build emotional ties with his team, it would be easier for him to gain cooperation and support from people on whom he must rely to get the work done. Working with someone who is friendly, cooperative, and supportive, employees tend to be more productive. Parson also needs to be a more Achievement-Oriented Leader, not only by himself but to challenge others to perform at the highest levels within
