Ellie again questions herself and her actions when she blows up a lawnmower to save her friends. She battles with her decision and believes she is a murderer. Although the choices she makes may deliver pain and trauma to others, her human spirit shines through the chaos to help her succeed. Through the characters in ‘Tomorrow When the War Began’, Marsden shows the human spirit’s ability to grow and triumph. Ellie’s decisive ability and her morals are thrown into chaos when she arrives at the family house and finds her dogs dead.
For Antigone and Creon these consequences were very extreme. Antigone in reality killed her sister and fiancé by deciding to berry her dead brother, even though everyone around her begged her not to. By choosing to berry her brother she forced her uncle to not only kill her but everyone around her who she loved. She became so lonely when she was forced into captivity that she killed herself. All this because of one decision she made to berry her brother caused her life to fall apart and everyone she loved to disappear.
Trauma begins when Maria hears everything from the hole and the torturing and screaming of her mother. Maria being 14 wants to go and help her mother but doesn’t cause of the safety of Alberto. Maria makes sure that Alberto does not hear anything and covers his ears. After all the screaming from Maria’s mother she hears gun shots and then silence. Knowing the horror she was going to find when she came out of the hole she tears a piece of her dress that her mother made for her and blindfolds
Her whole world went black and gloomy that day, and after her son’s death she just didn’t feel as if her life had meaning anymore. Aibileen has a quite strong dislike for whites now because when her son was severely injured at work, his fellow white coworkers did very little to help him; resulting in his death. Her bitterness emerges throughout the book, specifically when Mrs. Leefolt suggests that blacks were dirty. In response to this comment she said “I feel that bitter seed growing inside a me, the one planted after Treelore died. I want to yell so loud that Baby Girl can hear me that dirty isn’t a color, disease ain’t the Negro side a town.” Her son is her main motivation to keep pressing on through life no matter what.
Medea, by Euripedes. The tragedy starts with Jason’s betrayal to Medea, his Barberian wife, who to revenge herself kills her own children and Glauce, new wife of Jason. In the Exodos, Jason returns to his old house in the attempt to save his boys, but he learns by the chorus that they are already dead, murdered by Medea. The scene pursues with Jason’s anger towards his ex-wife and her manifestation of pleasure in seeing his desperation is evident throughout the text. POWER : The theme of objective power – free of a subjective judgement from the reader- is largely developed throughout the Exodos.
When Abigail was talking to Proctor she says “She is telling lies to about me! She is a cold sniveling woman, and you bend to her!”(Page 15, act one) she is basically showing her jealousy towards his wife. This stirred up the witch trials because Abigail wanted to be with Proctor and she would do just about anything. The fact that John proctor realizes all of his flaws and confesses to all of his sins is another reason why he can be considered a tragic hero. When Proctor had to go to the court to get his wife out of being accused of upholding witchcraft he eventually confess to his sins he committed.
She could be overly worried about her loneliness getting to her to where she would go as far as letting Lennie touch her. 34. Curley's wife allows Lennie to pet her hair, however Lennie gets too rough and this causes Curley's wife to scream. This freaks out Lennie and he covers her mouth to stop her from screaming, Lennie kills Curley's wife. This event relates to when Lennie crushed Curley's hand because Lennie couldn't figure out how to stop what is casuing him to panic in both events.
Its just I cant help thinking about this girl-destroying her life so horribly.’ This shows Sheila feels commiseration and sensitivity towards Eva and her death which comes across as genuine regret when she realises she could be linked to her suicide. Mr Birling interrupts her questioning by becoming even more aggressive when trying to defend her daughter. The phrase ‘why the devil do you want to go upsetting a child like that’ that he uses shows he is more concerned that his daughter has been affected by feelings of guilt and shame for what they might have done to Eva Smith. He doesn’t realise the depth of the familys involvement and still feels able to be bitter and outspoken towards the inspector. However, this does impact the inspector at all because he continues his questioning with Sheila further.
Macbeth seeing Banquos ghost is not his fear but his guilt over killing his best friend. With Lady Macbeths’ case she makes the crucial mistake of worrying about the future ultimately this causes her to go insane because she keeps thinking that she will be caught. However that is not the reason for her insanity, she was consumed by the guilt of forcing Macbeth to kill Duncan, she could no longer live with herself so she committed suicide to put an end to her misery. In modern society both of the misfortunes of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth can happen to anyone, why do human beings do anything to become successful even if it requires them to push others under the bus. Guilt is the number one reason for depression in America and the second highest reason that causes people to commit suicide in todays society.
Antigone knows that Creon knows what she has done and states, “I gave myself to death, long ago, so I might serve the dead.” Her brother not being buried changes the relationship she has with her uncle because her uncle now wants her to suffer and to e tormented for something she thought was right. Anti gone dies because she kills herself in a cave she can’t escape from. She hung herself and the first person to realize she was dead is Creon’s son Haemon. Haemon was devastated and wanted to kill the person responsible and he felt that there wasn’t a force on the planet that could stop him. Creon is told by Tiresias that if he doesn’t change the way he is bad things are going to happen.
