Modernity in Islam

Modernity and Islam, are each complex and historical in their own way. Each subject is similar but oddly enough, they have grown hand in hand. It is evident that while they are not synonymous, they do play a cause ad effect game with each other. The common perception is that there is a degree of modernism within Islam due to several factors. Modernism began to reform and influence Islam because of the changes that were occurring around Islamic communities, an example of this is European influence upon Islam. If Islam communities adjust to the change and accept modernism the religion, people and culture will counter the influence and be saved. In other words modernity and Islam became companionable when Islam began to adjust to the Western changes politically, logically, scientifically, and ethnically. These adjustments were thought of as a means of progress. Modernity prompts for change within Islam, creating challenges. Although challenges are evident, it is however fair to say that modernity brings about progress. As things change it is almost inevitable that one adheres to change and welcomes it to a certain extent. Early beliefs explain that Islam was in need of renewal, with this renewal Islam might become the center of more change and be the influential prospect rather than the subject of change. Modernism was accepted in the anticipation that Islam will become the base of a succeeding society. This was enforced with the reinterpretation of Islamic law using modern concepts.“In places outside of Europe, as a consequence of colonialism and globalization, conditions have mostly evolved under European influences, even in countries like Turkey”(Cinar 1). Turkey’s history and Islamic background comes from the Ottoman Empire. The Empire created political, social and public reforms in order to modernize the Islamic community. The central beliefs
