Sonia Devi With modernisation and globalisation there is a change in the culture of societies. Write an assignment on the new forms of culture in the Mauritian society. Mauritius was unpopulated and consequently had no indigenous population and settlement started in the 15th century with the Dutch and for over four centuries immigrants from mainly Europe, Asia and Africa have lived and developed the island into a modern society. Mauritian population comprises of :- * 69% of people of Indian origin, subdivided into different ethnics groups, Hindus and Muslims from Bihar, Tamils and Telegus from south India and Marathis from Maharastra; * 27% Creoles of Africans and Malagasis, * 3% Chinese, * 1.7% Franco Mauritians Each migrant group brought along its specific culture, language, religion, music and dance, dress code, popular believes and folkways, but after four hundred years of coexistence there has been a lot of exchange between the different cultures and an emergence of a new mauritian culture although basically each ethnic group has maintain its original culture. The process of modernisation and globalisation during the period after independence (1968) has greatly influenced whole mauritian culture. This assignment will look at the new forms of culture in the mauritian society that has resulted from modernisation and globalisation. The media Television, Radio and Information and Communication Technology has largely influenced life of individuals, the family and the mauritian society at large. One main form of entertainment for most men and also a growing proportion of women is to watch football on tv, especially on satellite television.
