TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP Student by name Institution affiliation Course Professor Date Introduction Transformational leadership is leadership that aims at changing an organization’s present reality through the communication of a convincing vision. The objectives of a transformational leader are to change the attitudes, behaviors and motivations of employees under him. According to Bass (1985: pg. 320), transformational leadership is leadership distinguished by the ability to bring about considerable change in employees and the entire organization. Transformational leaders develop visions that can be inspiration to other people. Models of transformational leadership The most significant models of this form of leadership are those articulated by Bass (1990; 204). The first model is that of outstanding leadership, which is characterized by five behavioral traits that can be used to describe transformational leadership. The first trait is management of attention, which refers to the ability of a leader focus the attention of followers to priorities. Transformational leaders utilize creative and remarkable techniques to draw individuals to the organization and to their vision (Bass, 1990, pg. 103). They articulate their ideas and visions in manner that stimulates and interests others. The second trait is management of communication in which transformational leaders are able to communicate in a concise and unambiguous manner to every employee in the organization irrespective of their management level. These leaders usually use one-to-one communication. The third trait of under outstanding leadership is management of trust, which entails acting in a consistent manner so that followers are able to predict the ways in which the leader will respond or act. Obviousness of behavior develops affability by lowering doubts in the minds of subordinates.
