today I will be informing you on our beloved (and I say this with all sarcasm) Willard Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947 and is the son of Lenore and George W. Romney (who was Michigan's governor in 1963 through 1969). Mitt is an American businessman and politician who is the nominee of the Republican party for the 2012 Presidential election. So you ask, what was Mitt Romney's motivation to run for President? In 1954 Mitt's father became the chairman and CEO of American Motors, helping the company avoid bankruptcy and return to profitability. By the time Mitt was 12, his father had become a nationally known figure in print and on television and Mitt idolized him. In 1963 Mitt's father was elected Governor of Michigan and later ran in the Presidential election where he lost to Democrat, Richard Nixon but later served in Nixon's cabinet. Mitt worked for him as an intern in the Governor's office. Mitt's mother Lenore also had her run in politics but lost a senate race in 1970 in which Mitt worked for her campaign also. So as you can see Mitt Romney came from a long line of family politics. Beginning in 1966, he spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Romney later secured a position at Bain & Company serving as its chief executive officer. He helped bring the company out of financial crisis. His net worth is estimated at $190-250 million, wealth that helped fund his political campaigns prior to 2012. He served as bishop of his ward and later stake president in his home area near Boston. Mitt ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, losing to long-time incumbent Ted Kennedy. In 1999, he was hired as President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee
