These are things like sleeping earlier, doing their homework’s, being peaceful in school so that they are not having any problems with anyone in school which could make them feel down and not wanting to go to school etc. These issue needs to be resolved because Fog City will see this number by much more because friends have influences on each other and if one drops out then the others may be influenced. There are many crimes linked to truancy “students who do not graduate from high school are far more likely to be arrested for crime and also become victims of violence” this means that not only should this issue be resolved for the sake of Fog City’s school report cards but also for the crime of the city to be reduced. (Guernsey 3) The PASS proposal may not be such a good idea because it may have negative effects on the students in the long run. According to Ripley’s paragraph 2 “Psychologists warn that money can actually make kids perform worse by cheapening the act of learning”.
Some people deserve a second chance, but it shouldn’t be given to someone that doesn’t show effort towards school. If someone is failing a class you can’t always blame the student. You have to put in perspective that the teacher could be bad at teaching,or perhaps the student missed a lot of class due to being sick,or maybe the class is just too hard. So however, handing out extra credit could be tolerable to the students that show effort, and not to the students who mess around in class. One reason a student should receive extra credit to pass, is that they have trouble with that one specific subject.
This benefits middle class pupils as all the troublesome students are removed from their school it means the teachers have more time for them to improve their grades thus making the school more popular because of their rank in the league tables then letting them cream-skim thus improving the school further. Consequently, this means the less successful schools have the less able, working class students putting them in a spiral of decline. Cream-skimming is when a higher achieving school selects higher ability pupils, who gain the best results and cost less to teach. This then means they have more money to pay for better equipment and more facilities for the students to achieve higher thus keeping up the standards of the school allowing the school to cream-skim the very best pupils making the school more popular because it has a better rank in the exam league tables. Exam league tables rank each school according to its exam performance but it makes no allowance for the level of ability of its pupils.
The good thing about teacher offering extra points for participation in charity drives is that those will get more student participation than normal. Most students will ignore or just forget to donate if there’s nothing in it for them. It also raises awareness of charities or world/national/community problems in general. Most students if it doesn’t affect their life then it’snot important. By teachers giving points then students also get an opportunity to help them raise their grade.
A student’s participation in various activities throughout the community opens the door to not only a better society, but also an improvement in the student’s morality and character. The Dalton School’s mission statement argues that one who is involved in community service “will feel a sense of accomplishment” and their ability to connect with others is enriched. Being that technology is so advanced these days, students are commonly dependent on their electronic devices to get them through the day. Such devices set students back from lending a hand to others due to the fact that they are often distracted by social media and improving society’s view of themselves. By requiring students to take a break from technology and lend a helping hand, they become better people because the student then realizes the importance of human interaction and how just a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.
They work hard to make money for school, but their extra income may cost them financial aid amounts. Finally, the students who get the financial aid are also offered work- study while others do not have anything. Cheating is also considered as student dilemma. It is true that some students study hard while others are lazy, but all students expect good grades. These lazy students try to get ahead of others by cheating which breaks the trust factor and creates cracks in the relationships.
Society thrives on the philosophy of allowing children to do what they want when they want. When in reality these students are often are acting up or failing grades to get attention from parents and mentors. Neo-Scholasticism allows students to become internally motivated. Students who have internal as well as external motivation to finish school will be less likely to drop out of school. While, factors such as constant absentness, unwanted behaviors, and low grades influence drop-out rates, school that have stricter guidelines and repercussions for the factors might make students think twice about their actions.
Summary/ Response Assignment O`Malley, Patrick. “More Learning, More Testing” In “More Testing, More Learning,” Patrick O`Malley suggests that college professors should give tests to the students periodically in order for the students to learn more. Furthermore, more tests or exams will minimize the student’s stress because students will be more familiar with the subjects that are given to them. Like the author says, “If professors gave an additional brief exams at frequent intervals, student would learn more, study more regularly, worry less, and perform better on midterms, finals, and other papers and projects.” (O`Malley, pg. 488).
Students can experience a more beneficial learning environment by having a longer school day. High schoolers in particular should always be learning and wanting to approach more opportunities. Also, having a better learning experience means having no stress from being really tired. When you are stressed, it can make you distracted and unfocused on your studies. If kids miss a day it will result in missing out on learning new things and they would need to make work up.
First off, I plan on going in to Highschool with good grades. I think that it would give the teachers a good feel about me from the start instead of one of those kids that sit around and do nothing. Second, I think that going in there or staring off wanting to be in better classes would help. I think that it just motivates you to do better and not be just average. Lastly, friends are a good thing to have by your side.
