Small-town girls take center stage in PFMI Miss India 2013 The 50th edition of Ponds Femina Miss India 2013 was special on its own. It saw the ever so gorgeous former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, make a comeback to stage with an enthralling dance performance. It saw the introduction of a special ‘Digital Diva’ category for the contestants. And it saw our very own ‘desi girl’ Priyanka Chopra, dance her way to some regional music spanning multiple Indian states. But the most notable feature of this year’s Miss India pageant was the emergence of talented girls from various small towns and cities of India. Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra’s journey from Bareilly to Boston makes her what she is today. She is one of those who likes to celebrate her small town roots. And the same goes with Tanushree Dutta who grew up in Jamshedpur and went on to win the Miss India Universe title in 2004. To her, the win was a victory of all small-town girls. In an interview after winning the crown she'd said, “I would like Jamshedpur girls and all other small-town girls to know that one needs to believe in oneself, be ambitious and career-oriented. If you have these qualities, nothing is impossible.” For Vanya Mishra, Pond’s Femina Miss India 2012, life undertook a complete transformation after she won the prestigious title. “I come from the small town of Chandigarh with big dreams. I feel very lucky and I am very thankful to Dabur Gulabari for giving me a wild card entry to Miss India 2012 finals," she had said minutes after wining the coveted title. This year’s pageant was no different, and in fact, had more contestants coming from distant cities and towns.
